Situated just a short walk away from the village of Bishop Sutton in North East Somerset, Chew Valley Caravan Park is ideally located for those wishing to visit Bristol, Bath or Wells, or if you just want to explore Somerset.
It’s also an award winning campsite, having won prizes from our sister brands Practical Caravan and Practical Motorhome. And it’s adults only, so perfect for a quiet getaway, as the site’s own Keith Betton told Caravan Sitefinder.
“When the park opened in 1992, the original owners believed it was the first adult only park in the country,” he said. “Since taking over, we have invested heavily, becoming fully hardstanding in 2006, when we also established an acre of woodland which is maturing nicely now. We’ve added 10 more pitches with two thirds of the park's pitches upgraded to fully serviced, and we have also refurbished and extended all the facilities, changing from the traditional line of sinks to individual ‘en suite’ style shower rooms, which are extremely popular with guests.”
It’s not hard to see why these are popular. Each shower room is a self contained unit featuring a toilet, basin and shower in a single cubicle, meaning it’s as close to being at home in your own bathroom as you get – and there is disabled access.
As Keith said, all of the campsite’s 45 pitches are hardstanding and with electrical hook-ups, and 28 of these are fully serviced, meaning they also have a tap, a drain and a TV aerial. And when you arrive, the site will help you park and level your caravan.
In addition, there’s a free freezer facility, CCTV and a security barrier, a heated chemical disposal point with a hand washing facility, a drive-over waste disposal point for motorhomes, a hook-up just outside the barrier for late arrivals, Wi-Fi and a free to use internet point, a library, an indoor clothes washing and dishwashing area, and coin operated washing machines and tumble dryers. Also, as well as being adults only, Chew Valley Caravan Park is a very dog friendly site with a dog walking area.

And what does this cost? Pitches are between £20 a night for an economy pitch in the low season and £28 for a fully serviced pitch at peak times. This price includes two people, an awning and up to two dogs.
So Chew Valley Caravan Park has lots to offer, Keith drawing on his years of first caravanning and then touring in a motorhome to make it the best he can. “The park has been in the family since 1998 and I took over 10 years ago, when I gave up corporate life,” he recalls. “Working on a caravan park is a great life. You meet so many friendly and interesting people, and the opportunity to be outdoors so much is a real bonus.
"Some of my earliest memories are of caravan holidays in the Lake District in a 10-foot Sprite with my parents,” continues Keith. “Over the years the caravans got bigger and were then replaced with a series of motorhomes – and I still sneak away occasionally in my dad’s latest Autosleeper Nuevo.”

So what do people like about Chew Valley Caravan Park? “Our guests tell us they return because it is quiet and tranquil, it’s near Bath, Bristol, Wells and Cheddar, and of course motorhome owners really appreciate the hire car we have, as they can take it for just a couple of hours in the evening to try one of the local pubs and restaurants, as well as using it for longer trips in the daytime,” he reports.
Indeed there are plenty of things to do in Somerset, besides visiting the county’s famous, historic towns and cities. You could use your caravan or motorhome as the base for a walking holiday. Or how about the Bristol International Jazz & Blues Festival in March, the Bristol International Balloon Fiesta in August or the Bath Christmas Market? “And there’s so much more,” Keith adds. “We aim to give our guests the perfect place from which to explore everything this lovely corner of Somerset has to offer.”
