Nearby tourist attractions
Once a haven for pirates and smugglers, the cliff-sheltered bays of this coastline are as beautiful as they are legendary. Whitby is a thriving fishing port with a picturesque harbour and quaint town, its shops, restaurants and pubs full of the character associated with a bygone era.
Nearby Robin Hoods Bay envelops visitors in its cobbled, cottage-lined streets. These lead steeply down to a beautiful beach famous for fossils and its' "Mermaid's Steps".
Runswick and Sandsend also have wonderful beaches, each having a unique character and the timeless appeal of traditional seaside villages.
Inland, the North Yorkshire Moors, now famous as Heartbeat country, is spectacular for touring, the Moors Railway being well worthy of a visit for those wishing to view the beauty of the area by steam train. More action and adventure, however, may be sought at Flamingoland Fun Park, or the busy seaside town of Scarborough, with its shops, cinemas, theatres and Sea life Centre. Alternatively, a walk along the coastal footpaths in this area will appeal to nature lovers.
