Our visit to Fort William was rather forced upon us when my husband took ill and was admitted to the Bedford Hospital. I was left with a car and a motorhome which were parked in a town car park. The hospital was extremely helpful in trying to locate a Caravan Park for me and I was unbelievably lucky to be sent to Lochy Holiday Park. I had to drive the car out to the Park as they do not accept telephone bookings, but the welcome I received and the concern shown was outstanding. We have had the motorhome for only a few months and I was worried because I had never driven it or set it up on site before, however, the charming lady on Reception called the wonderful Dennis who was despatched with me in my car to drive the motorhome back to the Park where he pitched it on a hardstanding pitch, big enough to take both the motorhome and the car. When I arrived back at the Park in the evening, I collected the keys from Reception (which is open until about 10pm every night – how good is that) and Dennis came along to ensure I was able to connect electricity, gas, etc. The following day he got the TV up and working for me too. I never did find out the names of the other 3 very helpful and charming people who manned Reception, but they too went above and beyond the call of duty. Each day they were keen to know how my husband was progressing, stressing that he was in an excellent hospital (he was) and offering reassurance at every turn. I ended up having to stay 5 nights before he was transferred to a hospital nearer where we live. I will never forget the help I received from complete strangers at a difficult time. As well has having the best owners/wardens Lochy is a beautiful site, nestled as it is in the sight of Ben Nevis with easy access to Fort William. It is very well maintained and the toilet/shower blocks were spotless, laundry facilities were first class and the shop was so well stocked. When my husband has recovered we will certainly be visiting this 5 star ++ site again.

Practical Motorhome Independent Site Reviews.
This family holiday park is five miles west of Fort William, on the 'Road to the Isles' and Mallaig. Over two generations, the Sutton family has created a holiday park environment within the dramatic scenery of Loch Eil and the mountains beyond.
Flowering trees and shrubs support a variety of wildlife in this idyllic setting, which is ideal for peace and relaxation. There are individual, terraced, touring pitches for caravans and motorhomes, and several small, well-kept grassy camping areas.
The whole park benefits from extensive facilities, including a shop, laundry, barbecue areas, play areas and access to the loch for canoeing, boating and fishing.
The highest mountain in the UK draws your gaze from the site. Ben Nevis (4418ft), along with dozens of other high-level ridges and peaks, are within easy reach from here.
Climbers, walkers, history lovers - almost any group with an interest in the outdoors will be spoiled for choice. The inland lochs, rivers and hundreds of miles of shoreline provide unlimited scope for sailing and canoeing.
The West Highland Way and the Great Glen Cycle Route both pass through Fort William. The world championship downhill mountain bike course at Nevis Range is a major international annual event.
The on-site facilities are of the very highest standard. The centrally-heated toilet blocks house spacious cubicles for shower and vanity units, and a bath is also provided. The excellent shop sells fresh bread, rolls and croissants every day - baked on site. A superb, safe, toddlers' playroom, with large play equipment for children under five is - conveniently for busy mums and dads - adjacent to the laundry facilities.
You may well see steam trains running past the site, on their way from Fort William to Mallaig, but by far the best attraction is the view of lochs and hills.

It’s a question of location, location, location at Lochy Holiday Park, sited as it is in a unique setting offering outstanding views of Ben Nevis and the surrounding mountains.
There are a number of log cabins and static holiday caravans in the park but the generous touring area known as the ‘camping park’ has arguably the prime position. Alongside it runs the pretty River Lochy which makes for a lovely place to enjoy a lunchtime picnic or an open-air barbecue with friends on a hot summer evening.
Caravanning facilities at Lochy Holiday Park are quite basic but this just adds to the site’s rough-and-ready charm. There are 100 well-spaced touring pitches for caravans, all on grass, 30 of which have 16A hook-up. There is one neat, well-maintained toilet and washroom block to service the camping park area, with a separate coin-operated laundry room. The site also has a well-stocked shop, which usefully includes many caravanning accessories that you might need at short notice.
The park is most suited to families interested in outdoor pursuits at all levels, for whom the area of Lochaber has it all: mountains, glens, rivers, waterfalls, history, castles, fishing, climbing, walking, skiing, shopping.
Within the most immediate vicinity are many miles of paths for rambling or cycling, and a good selection of restaurants and bars to choose from after a busy day exploring.
The park is also a good base for a holiday in the Highlands. Both the Fort William area and Lochaber are conveniently central for day trips to Loch Ness, the Spey Valley, Oban and the islands of Mull and Iona.
Lochy Holiday Park is perhaps at its best during the summer months when the long evenings allow more time for day trips and barbecues as well as a real taste of Scotland’s great outdoors.
