Owner's description

A quiet site where the pitches are level, though the site drops away into rolling wooded countryside. Alderstead Heath is an ideal holiday site in a picturesque setting with views over the North Downs. The walking options are varied (you are on the Pilgim's Way). Its proximity to London makes this an obvious and delightful base to explore the capital (25 mins from Redhill), but it's also central to visit much of Sussex, Kent and Surrey and day trips to choose from include Brighton, family theme parks, National Trust properties and gardens, several racecourses - all within easy driving distance. The Denbies Wine Estate at Dorking is both informative and fun for all the family.

9 Aug 2011: gavinharvey from antrim reviewed Alderstead Heath Caravan Club Site

We spent 7 nights at this site using it primarily as a base from which to travel into the capital to do touristy things. An ideal location about 2 miles from the train station and from there an easy 30 minute train journey into London Bridge station. The site itself is quite large but well spaced out and certaintly didn't seem crowded. The staff were knowlegeable and very friendly and helpful, the site and facilities were immaculatley maintained. Sitting outside the caravan having on a sunny evening surrounded by mature trees in a tranquil setting, it really did seem strange that we were so close to central London. The caravan club advise that you follow their directions rather than your sat nav - we did and still managed to approach the site from the wrong direction, up a very steep single track road with a number of blind bends - interesting! Lovely site highly recommended.

Practical Motorhome independent site reviews Jan 2007

Despite its convenient location for visiting central London (an hour’s drive on a good day), Alderstead Heath has a calm, rural feel thanks to its location among the open fields of the Surrey countryside.
Much of the site is dotted with grass ‘base’ pitches, for caravans stationed here most of the year, but these certainly don’t detract from the appeal of the spacious touring area at the top end of the site. Most pitches are on hardcore hardstanding, so bring some rock pegs for your awning (although these can also be bought from the site shop).
Facilities are of the Caravan Club’s usual high standard, and there is even a dedicated tourer washing area if your ‘van is streaked with grime on arrival.
There is some background noise from the nearby M25, but there remains a wonderfully secluded feel to the site, which is bordered on one side by woods that are extremely popular with walkers.
Security is also excellent, with the site offering a perimeter fence linked to reception by an alarm.
Redhill and Caterham are just a few miles away, and a nearby pub, The Feathers, serves good food and real ales.

You could be forgiven for not knowing that you are 15 miles from Central London and right on top of the M25 at Alderstead Heath. Tucked away in the Surrey hills between open countryside and wooded heathland, the only trace of real civilisation is the odd house and concrete paths that criss-cross the adjacent wooded areas. Although now reclaimed by nature, these paths are all that remain of the secret World War II food depot that was hidden here, shrouded by the trees.
Open all year with 83 touring pitches, Alderstead Heath is a quiet and well-kept site. The two toilet blocks are immaculate and, as with most Caravan Club sites, the hot water is plentiful and the showers are free. Food preparation areas and laundry facilities are provided, and there is also a small shop in the reception selling basic groceries and newspapers. A very useful information point is next door.
Alderstead Heath is a great base for walking, watching wildlife, or taking in the unmissable sunrises, sunsets and starry skies. Bear in mind that this is a typically rural site, though, with few local facilities

Practical Motorhome Independent Site Reviews.

At Alderstead Heath, you could be forgiven for not realising that you are only 15 miles from London, and not far from the M25. Tucked away in the Surrey hills between open countryside and wooded heathland, the only trace of much civilisation is the odd house, and concrete paths which criss-cross the adjacent wooded areas. Interestingly, these paths are all that remain of the secret WWII army depot that was once here, hidden by the trees. The area has now been reclaimed by nature, and people enjoy walking their dogs here.
Alderstead Heath has 83 touring pitches is open all year round. It is a quiet and exceptionally well-kept site. The two toilet facility buildings are immaculate, and as with most Caravan Club sites the hot water is plentiful and the showers are free.

Alderstead Heath is a great base from which to walk, watch wildlife, or enjoy the wonderful sunrises, sunsets and starry skies. Despite being so close to London it is essentially a rural site, and so has few local facilities. The surrounding countryside is hilly and public transport is not reliable. But Redhill and Caterham are only a short distance away, and both have good shopping areas.
