A great overnight stop for anyone heading North or South, as it is a stone's throw from the A1.
Or a great touring base as we found!
The owners booked us in at short notice during the summer of '03 when our intended destination proved less than "as advertised" and could not have been more helpful. We had probably the best holiday we've had for years, with lots to do within easy travelling distance, and the gaurantee of a relaxed atmosphere to return to at night.
The 11 pm locked gate assures caravanners of a peaceful night, and the traffic noise from the A1 was not really all that noticable.
In all other ways the site was pretty noiseless too, the gentle murmer of happy caravanners was all that could be heard of an evening, thought the tented area was a wee bit louder, but far enough away for it not to be a bother.
Luckily there were no screaming kids, just happy bairns with mindful parents, no footballs being kicked nearby (don't we all pray for the day when there are "NO HARD BALL GAMES" signs around caravans?) no bans on motorcycle tourers (bikers have rights too!) and no loud music being played. We all seek that bit of peace and quiet, and if it's loud enough to be heard at the next pitch then it's too loud! And NO MIDGES, probably as the grass was kept well trimmed.
The toilets were adequate, and clean enough, and probably the only point where we would score less than ten out of ten.
The nearby pub was a boon for easy eating out, but added to the waistline a bit! Still, the short walk there and the longer stagger back trimmed off a few calories.
Our early morning (4am) departure was no problem, and the owners arranged an easy solution for us.
I'd go back, in fact we intend to this summer, taking friends too.
