Nestling in the Lower Wharfe Valley, Maustin Caravan Park is a touring and static site in the North Yorkshire Dales, midway between Harrogate and Wetherby in the little hamlet of Kearby.
Signs to the campsite are quite small and unobtrusive, so obtaining a brochure in advance is advisable, because this gives clear directions to the park.
The approach roads are quite narrow, as indeed is the site entrance, and care needs to be taken with larger motorhomes.
Once there, you are shown to your numbered pitch on level and well-drained grass; because of its location there is an almost complete absence of any road noise. The park's brochure advertises itself as “a tranquil setting for people without family responsibilities, and it is certainly that.
One of the more unusual features of the site is a bowling green, which is used by campers and locals alike, with competitions going on throughout the summer.
The former stable block houses the reception, a well-stocked bar and an on-site restaurant (open at weekends only), which serves a good selection of traditional Yorkshire food. There is a choice of eating indoors or, weather permitting, outside with a view of the bowling green. The restaurant has a comfortable lounge area which includes a television. Takeaway food is also available, and can be delivered direct to your motorhome if you so wish.
The existing toilet block is somewhat old and so a programme of refurbishment is currently being undertaken, which includes the construction of a new amenities building with shower, toilet and washing-up facilities. There is also a tourist information room. Electric hook-ups are also due to be upgraded. Facing south, the park looks towards the ruins of Harewood Castle and across the River Wharfe is the Harewood Estate, which is home to the Earl of Harewood.
