Golden Square Caravan & Camping Park is set in a superb location in the south-east corner of the North Yorkshire Moors National Park. From the warm and sheltered site, there are panoramic views across farm, forest and moorland towards the heart of the North Yorkshire Moors. The Touring Park is interestingly laid out in three different levels and carefully screened by trees. Even when the site is full, there is always a feeling of freedom afforded by the layout and the striking views across the National Park. The site is particularly recommended for family holidays with well behaved dogs allowed. We have 'deluxe' all service pitches. Seasonal pitches and a storage compound are available. Also, we have holiday homes for sale. There are two heated, luxury stone-built toilet and shower blocks, laundrette and well stocked shop with homemade bread and cakes, as well as licensed beverages. Close to Ampleforth are world famous historic houses, abbeys, castles and craft workshops as well as opportunities for golf, riding and pony trekking, swimming, gliding, fishing and walking.

Some of the places to put on your "Where To Go" list will be:

ABBEYS of Rievaulx, Byland, Fountains and Whitby

At a nearby Sports Centre at Ampleforth College, facilities include an excellent swimming pool, squash, badminton and tennis (indoor & outdoor). This is very popular with our visitors and the Sports Centre is only 3 minutes drive or 15 minutes walk from the site. At Helmsley there is an open air swimming pool (summer months only).

I would love to have stayed here, but we have 3 dogs and although on the website it does say more with site owners consent, this was given a no without even asking any further questions about them.

golden square is amongst one of our most favorite caravan parks to date. it has alot to offer all age groups, as plenty to do in the two play parks. and loads of open fields for the kids to run around. from the site you are central to lots of fantastic places like sutton bank gliding club where you can spend an afternoon watching the gliders soaring to dizzy heights, or take a tranquil walk around either revaulx abbey, byland abbey or fountains abbey or just a lesuirely stroll around one of the many forest walks just offsite. the toilet & shower blocks are well kept to a high standard. the shop is well stocked with loads of essential, as well as selling alchol if you fancy a tipple or two. but be warned as this site is a very popular place with famillies, early booking is advisable as to be sure of getting a pitch. the owners Don and Barbra Armstrong are very warm and welcoming people, who show their commitment to their site by making changes each year as to improve the site even further for all of us to enjoy. all the staff are also very warm and welcoming and nothing seem to be a bother to them. as this site used to be a quarry many years ago, it is advisable to have some rock pegs as certain areas of the park the ground can be quite hard going. all in all golden square is still one of the best caravan parks we have visited to-date.
