We usually use club sites when visiting York but could not get is at short notice and tried this one instead. We were pleasantly surprised by the site and will probably book it in preference to the club sites in future. The site is easy to find and no problems with access. It slopes down gradually towards the river from the road and is a mix of hard standing and grass pitches. It is very like a club site in design and facilities and the owners were friendly and helpful. It does have separate family and adults only areas. Did not see any children's play area though.
It has a decent shop and a fish and chip van calls on Fridays.
A good site if you do not want a clubhouse and the rest and within easy reach of York. Bus services run from the entrance and there is a park and ride service into the city from the Outlet Centre which is walkable. It cost us £20 a night which is reasonable.

We visited Naburn Lock a couple of weeks ago and chose it due to having an adults only field. We love kids and have 3 of our own but we were lucky enough to be leaving them at home with their grandparents on this occasion so we didn't want to be too close to other people's kids.

The site is set in a lovely location with a short walk to the river from which a river boat service into York city centre runs at weekends and during certain shool holidays. The 1 hour boat trip was a very relaxing way to get to and from York and we would highly recommend it. Don't be alarmed as you approach the site through Naburn - you will pass a sewage works but the site is well clear of the smell!

The toilet block had lots of toilets and several showers but it was quite a walk from the adult field where we were pitched. There was always plenty of hot water and they were very clean but they are not up to Caravan Club standards. Perfectly acceptable though.

The owners were very friendly and knowledgeable, the shop is well stocked and the site has a strict no noise after 11pm policy which was adhered to by all.

Just up the road from the site is an enormous designed outlet for those who like retail therapy but you would need to either drive there or get the bus which stops just outside the site - great for motorhomers.

Within easy reach is the east coast - our chosen resort on this trip was Whitby and we had a lovely day there and excellent fish & chips at the Quayside restaurant.

We will definitely return to Naburn Lock - might even take the kids next time!!!

The bus is easily accessible from just outside the campsite to York which we use all the time when we visit. We noted the campsites now open into December so great for Christmas shopping trips to York.Hopefully not too long before we return.

Naburn Lock Caravan Site

Excellent location, spotlessly clean
We spent five nights on a hardstanding pitch in the adults only area of this site. The showers/toilets are spotlessly clean. Owners are very friendly. There is a little shop onsite for any essentials. The site is very well located for days trips around the local area. Excellently located also for the park & ride into York from the Designer Outlet. Would love to revisit when the weather is a little kinder so we could do more walking in the area.
