Pencelli Castle Caravan & Camp Park

Season 30th December to 3rd December

Owner's description

A warm Welsh welcome greets all holidaymakers upon arrival at Pencelli Castle Caravan and Camping Park. This multi award winning family run park, in the heart of Brecon Beacons National Park, is ideally located for walking, cycling and mountain biking enthusiasts, as well as those who enjoy pony trekking or canoeing, with an adjoining canal the perfect location for the latter. This beautiful area is also a haven for those who are simply seeking peace and tranquillity to relax and recharge their batteries, a great escape from the stresses of everyday life.

Open year round, Pencelli Castle Caravan and Camping Park is situated at the edge of Pencelli Village, and lies 4 miles east of the historic market town of Brecon. Peaceful and small, the park is within easy walking distance of the highest peaks of the Brecon Beacons, great news for those looking to take on a challenge during their trip!

Holidaymakers can indulge in a chat with the locals, enjoy food prepared with locally produced ingredients, or have a pint of ‘real’ ale or cider at The Royal Oak Inn, which is situated just 150 metres from the main entrance to the park. The nearby villages of Talybont, Llanfrynach and Llangynidr also feature a number of great pubs and friendly, welcoming local businesses.

A small shop within the park means that all of your holiday essentials are within easy reach, although taking a short walk to other locations around the Brecon Beacons to buy other goods is one of the most scenic and inspirational shopping trips you could ever wish to take.

Escape to some of the most beautiful landscape in the whole of Wales, and take the whole family along for an inspirational, fun holiday that you will never forget. Just remember to bring your energetic side if you are planning to take on some of the undulating terrain in the area, particularly via bicycle!

We have stayed at this wonderfull site may times now and have found that they consistantly keep up their high standards of cleanliness and beautiful surroundings. The staff are exceptionally helpfull , and the owners are every ready to help. I am very fussy about the standards in the toilet blocks and have yet to find anywhere of the standard. The gardens are a delight. If you want a peacefull break with spotless facilities in beautiful surroundings, with several eating places close by and a vairety of things to do in short travelling distance this is the place for you. we love it and cant recommend it highly enough.

This site has the cleanest toilets and bathrooms that i have ever seen on a site.If you are disabled or have children the family bathroom makes life so much easier. The childrens play area is lovely with a separate area for ball games both of which are well away from the caravans so people without children can still enjoy peace and quiet. The whole site is so well kept,it really is a pleasure to stay here. The village pub is just a 2 min walk away and serves good food. This site is just as good out of season.Plenty to do in the area.Big downside for us is that no dogs are allowed so we cant visit very often.

The moment you drive into this wonderful countryside site you know that it's a bit special. It is situated on the edge of the small village of Pencelli, and the owners, Gerwyn and Liz Rees, live in an ancient house that was once part of the original castle.
The warm welcome they extend to their guests is a foretaste of the treats in store on the site and in its surroundings.
The end wall of the reception block is decorated with awards; the word 'immaculate' may be over-used, but nothing else does justice to what you will find here. The pitches are enormous – 160 square metres should be enough for everyone – and the site's three separate fields are very well maintained, with close-cut grass and excellent services.
Pencelli is popular with those who enjoy hill-walking; add to this the magnificent views of the Brecon Beacons and direct access to excellent canal-side walks, and you can easily see why so many guests opt to return to the site time after time; silence pervades across the site. The owners have produced a short nature trail leaflet with its own guide and there is a lovely deer enclosure alongside the site. The village of Pencelli is right on your doorstep and the local pub is reachable too.

Pencelli is one of the few places where you can hand-feed a red deer within yards of your pitch. It’s also a must for anyone who has an interest in history. The on-site manor house dates from 1583 and has a collection of farm machinery that includes rare tractors. Rabbits and ducks can also be hand-fed, making it an ideal spot for young families.

With the Brecon Beacons on your doorstep there are ample views and hills to walk. Mountain biking and horse riding is very popular and can be arranged on site. To make sure that you can totally enjoy the tranquillity of the surroundings, the site has developed excellent facilities which are clean and easy to use.

There are two heated toilet and shower blocks on the site, and a further two rooms for the benefit of families or disabled people. Drying rooms with lockers ( a must when you’re walking the hills), a fridge-freezer service, an indoor washing-up service and laundry are also available. The 80 pitches are in excellent condition. Half have electric hook-up (16A) and 20 are hardstanding, all with fantastic views of the surrounding Brecon Beacons. The only drawback for some holidaymakers will be that dogs are not allowed.

Should you venture out of the camp, the Royal Oak pub is only 100 yards from the gates. This is an excellent spot to refresh after a hard day in the hills. A bus passes regularly and can take you to the tea rooms and restaurants of Brecon, Tal-y-bont or Abergavenny. In Brecon you will find a market every Tuesday and Friday. If you come during August you may want to attend the town’s annual jazz festival.

Within an hour’s drive are the Dan-Yr-Ogof Show Caves, where there are three caves, an Iron Age farm and a dinosaur park to explore. At Big Pit Mining Museum, in Blaenafon Torfaen, you can descend 300ft and experience what life was like for coal miners.
