Practical Motorhome Independent Site Reviews.
Approached up a long, straight drive with speed humps (which are not too steep), the Severn Gorge Park is easy to find, as it is signposted (with a caravan symbol) from the main roads into Telford. It is easily accessed by major roads from all directions.
There is not a great deal of room to park outside reception when the site is busy, especially if a couple of touring caravans have pulled up in front of you. But the welcome from staff is warm and friendly and there is a small shop that stocks all those last minute things you might have forgotten, such as teabags and milk.
The pitches are well spread out, with a few tourers on seasonal pitches, and there’s an extensive dog walk in the woods, so that our four-legged friends can go for a daily stroll or two.
The site is adjacent to a large residential mobile-home park, which also belongs to the site owners. There is a vet’s surgery next to the site, a public telephone box by the reception, and a pub which serves good food. We did notice some road noise at the far end of the site but it wasn’t loud enough to disturb our stay. The toilets are spotless and very warm in winter. Plenty of hot water is available.
There is a lot to do in the area, particularly in Telford, which has many recently built leisure facilities. A large shopping centre, an ice rink and a ski centre are three such developments, alongside a cinema, swimming pool, keep-fit centre and three golf clubs. Those looking for more peaceful pursuits will enjoy the lovely park and its lake. The industrial heritage of the region offers a completely different alternative to Telford’s latter-day distractions.
Whatever your level of interest in this period of history, you should pay at least a brief visit to Iron Bridge Gorge, where you can visit a host of museums set around the valley.
