Had a fantastic 10 night break here in August, lovely clean site, quiet and peaceful. Well stocked shop on site, lovely walks available direct from the site, will definately be going back, just ensure you book in advance as they soon sell out! And if your putting your awning up take a lumphammer & some extra strong pegs!

Fantastic site, set in what appears to be in woodland, quite and tranquil, for those who like widlife there is plenty to see and if you are early enought you may see dears grazing in the field. The toilet and shower block is clean and tidy. The site is situated on the road from Ambleside to Hawkshead, abit of warning when leaving the site after your stay and if you need to leave via Ambleside, joining the road to Ambleside there is abit on an incline, which can be a bit tricky to pull out if you catch it when there is alot of traffic, but do not let that put you off this is a great site and you will not be disappointed.

Practical Caravan Great Escapes recommended park August 2005

Skelwith Fold is an oasis. Although it’s set over an enormous 125 acres, the delightful woodland setting means that there is all the privacy anybody could need, and it’s all about as far from the bustle of modern living as it is possible to get without buying your own island. The touring pitches are thoughtfully laid out along winding, asphalt access roads and are organised into relatively compact areas. These serve to disguise the size of the park and create an interesting environment for that evening stroll.
All the essential facilities are on-site, including a shop, which was rebuilt for 2004. The seven toilet buildings are basic but clean, and one of them has facilities for the disabled.

Skelwith Fold is a true oasis. Although it’s set over an enormous 130 acres, the delightful woodland setting means that there is all the privacy anybody could need.
The site access road sweeps enticingly into dense woodland and transports you about as far from the bustle of modern living as it is possible to get without buying your own island in the Pacific. The touring pitches are thoughtfully laid out along winding, asphalt access roads, and are organised into relatively compact areas; this serves to disguise the size of the park and makes for an interesting environment for that evening stroll. Nature lovers will find the place particularly attractive – large amounts of flora and fauna share this idyllic setting.

This site makes a perfect escape from the world, and due to its remoteness the TV reception is not that good. But who wants to watch TV when some of the best Lakeland mountains are within an easy drive, as is the smart little town of Keswick, in the heart of the Lake District.
The site is situated south-west of Ambleside, and so it is better to approach this site from the south to avoid the heavy traffic that swamps the town at peak times.

Skelwith fold is situated in the centre of the Lakeland National Park, making it the ideal destination for those wanting either to relax and take in the magnificence of the mountains, or those who want to scale the summits. Set in 30 acres of grounds that once belonged to an historic mansion house, Skelwith Fold is a site rich in mature trees and shrubs.

It has 150 gravel hardstanding pitches serviced with 10A electric hook-up. They are all spacious, have good access and benefit from plenty of privacy. The park’s seven heated washblocks are well presented and are distributed throughout the park. Within them visitors will find free showers and hairdryers. There is a shop on site, as well as a laundry, and Skelwith is also dog friendly.

There is plenty on site to keep you entertained, and as you might expect of a park in this region. A boat launch, fishing and sailing are available, and five miles of private roads in Skelwith Fold provide plenty of opportunities for walking. These areas offer a wealth of wildlife, with 90 acres of woodland and a wildlife club which arranges special themed walks and outings on which you should keep your eyes peeled for deer, birds of prey and foxes. The five-acre family recreation area provides plenty of space to relax, there is a picnic area, a green with goalposts for ball games, and an adventure playground to keep the kids busy.

If you really want to get out and about you can take the opportunity to hire a mountain bike, or perhaps take a stroll to the some of the excellent pubs and eateries in the nearby village of Ambleside.
