1 Sep 2011: Andrea Yates from Oxfordshire reviewed South Lytchett Manor Caravan and Camping Park

We've just spent our first week of camping with our 2 young children (3 & 5)and we couldn't have picked a better site. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly, the site clean, tidy and spacious. Our children loved the play park and feeding the chickens and the site was safe enough for them to run around without us worrying. The shop sold most of the essentials you needed and even sold some alcohol so you could enjoy a glass of wine whilst watching the children wear themselves out! The shower blocks were lovely and even provided free hair dryers. There are nice areas to do your washing up (where I met some lovely people!) There are some rules like mopping out the showers after you have used them and wiping the sinks around and there is also quite time after 10.30pm and no children in the park before 8.30am but these I think are fantastic rules and contribute to the fact that this is a great site. So much so, that on the day we left, we booked our holiday for next year (even though the weather was not too kind to us)! Can't wait to go back.

This was our second visit in 12 months to this fabulous site.

The toilets and showers are spotless, although I am indifferent to piped music! The showers are hot, clean and readily available.

The shop is well stocked (and reasonably priced).

The staff were polite, cheery and very helpful.

I only have a minor niggle. The children's play area is merely adequate. More work is needed to improve it.

This was our second visit to the site and will certainly not be our last.

We have never visited a site which is so efficiently run - the staff zoom about the site on bicycles and someone is always on hand to direct you to your pitch and even help with lining up. They communicate by walkie-talkie so can be with you in seconds and they are always ready with a cheery good morning.

The site is always beautifuly well-kept, the grounds are tidy and well-maintained and the pitches are of a good size and al have their own electric point, tap and TV point.

The shower block is modern and immaculately clean, at whatever time of day you use it.

When we visited last year we had a couple of problems with our folding camper and the staff could not have been more helpful. Our battery was flat due to us being stupid enough to forget to charge it before we left home and they directed us to a local firm who recharged the battery for free and even lent us a spare while ours charged up.

Of the two pubs in the village we much preferred the Bakers Arms, which unfortunately is the furthest away, even though the offer of a free bottle of wine at St Peter's Finger is not to be sniffed at. Their food is good but they are very food orientated so not so good if you only want a quiet drink. The food at the Bakers Arms is also very good but you are not under so much pressure to eat. Just a shame it is a bit too far away to walk.

We would recommend South Lytchett Manor without reservation and we will certainly be back.

We stayed at South Lytchett Manor park last year, this year and have booked to stay there next year, we never usually stay in the same place twice. This site is soo clean, family and dog friendly.
We don't have children but do have 2 small dogs there is a lovely wooded area where the dogs can roam free from the lead.
They have a strict rule of quiet after 22.30 which is great.
For those of you with children they have what looks like a fabulous play area, a field for ball games and family rooms in the shower blocks.
Ice packs can be refrozen for a small donation to a local charity.
Shop is small but very well stocked with food, camping equipment (we forgot our water container and they had one)beer, wine, gifts and lots more.
We took avantage of the on site herb garden which is free for you to use. They have their own chickens so fresh eggs available daily.
Site is situated with easy access to all local areas, bus stop outside camp site.
There are 2 local pubs which both do great food and on arrival to site we were given a voucher for free bottle wine or 2 pints of beer (Bonus)
Fabulous alround site, best we have stayed in.

I cannot praise South Lytchett enough. I agree with everything that has been written before.
The site is spotlessly clean. The staff are so helpful and friendly.
We were given an upgrade on our pitch and now we will make sure to request the same area. The pitches were a terrific size.
We used the bus service each day as it was cheaper than having to pay for parking.
The showers were always immaculate and plenty of hot water.
We have already booked our next visit for August.
Would definitely recommend this site to anyone.

If you are looking for a clean, well managed, great rural location, well laid out, relaxed site with rules then this is a must for you. We have stayed 8 nights and have enjoyed every minute. From booking on the phone to the moment we left the staff were 5 star. There is no massive entertainment area, just enough for younger family members to have their our space. We have booked again for next year 2012

After having a fantastic week at South Lytchett Manor Caravan and camping Park I feel it is only fair to share my experience of such a pleasant and relaxing place. The park would take some beating in my view. The moment you arrive you are welcomed by friendly staff that show you to your pitch and even offer their assistance if needed on getting your caravan situated on your pitch. We feel there is nothing the staff would not do to help you as we found out first hand. The park is well maintained with pitches to suit all requirements. The shower blocks were always clean when visited, a vital factor for our family when choosing a campsite. Facilities on the site included a shop which stocked a wide variety of products including free range eggs, a pool room, and an information hut which provided free wifi access and a range of information on local amenities. Offsite there was two local pubs in walking distance where we enjoyed a lovely meal and service at both.

During our holiday we also took advantage of the local bus service (bus stop situated just outside the caravan park) to Bournemouth saving us the hassle of parking. There was also a bus service to Poole.

Overall South Lytchett Manor offered my family an all round fantastic service and i would strongly recommend the park for both couples and families.

This is without doubt one of the very best.
A large site in rolling parkland with a bus stop outside the front Gate with services to Poole (15 min), and Swanage.

Nothing is too much trouble for the staff on this family run site!
While there, I took full advantage of their endless patience
while giving me information about site facilities, and local amenities.

Even some of the not-too-bad sites I have visited, could benefit by having a few of their staff visit Lychett Manor, to see how the experts do it !

SUPERCALIFRAGILISTIC
EXPIALIDOCIOUS !

Arrived cold and stressed after leaving another site that I had booked and left after an hour because nothing worked and the facilities were dirty. This site couldn't have been more dofferent.

The managers were so kind to me, finding me a fab picth with great WiFi access (which I needed) and even lent me a TV cable. The manageress even knocked on my door the next morning to see if I was OK, which as a woman travelling alone was very appreciated.

The facilities are all beautiful and spotlessly clean. The bus stop right outside the gate makes travel to Poole, Bournemouth, etc very easy. There is a pub within 10 minutes walk.

One of the best and most friendly site I have ever stayed on.

We loved this site, and our welcome from Martin & Linda was very warm and welcoming. The pitches are of a good size, and the site as a whole is very well kept. All the facilities were always very clean, and the shop was very well stocked. The fact that you can get the bus right outside the site (and we found it a very reliable service,)just made it very easy to go to Poole, Weymouth or Swanage etc:. We hope to return to this site again as we were very happy with everything on site.We rate this site as 5 stars from our experience.

Following good reviews on the internet, i booked for a 5 day camping stay at South Lytchett Manor. It was everything i had hoped for. Very clean, well organised and managed, excellent staff who were extremely helpful. Great camping pitches with good, but not excessive, management of other noisy campers. It had rules which needed to be adhered to, but not just rules for rules sake like some sites i have seen. An excellent site which i could not find one fault with.(even freshly laid eggs for breakfast available from the on site chickens !)

We visited this site in June the weather was glorious and the site and location superb. The site is beautifully laid out and we were on Manor Field. We had a fully serviced pitch. Each pitch had its own mains water, electricity and waste and an added bonus of our own picnic table. The owners and staff were so helpful and polite and nothing was too much trouble. There was two local pubs which served excellent meals and also chinese take-away that would deliver to site. There was a local bus to Poole or Bournemouth. In fact things couldn't have been much better. It is one of the best campsites I have visited in over 20 years of caravanning. thank you everyone keep up the good work. We will be back again soon.

28 Feb 2009: clarks4 from Moira/Derbyshire reviewed South Lytchett Manor Caravan and Camping Park

We chose this caravan and camping park for our two week holiday in August. On arrival the staff/wardens were very welcoming and were on hand to answer any questions that we had. we were escorted to our pitch by one of the Wardens, which was nice instead of just being given a map to find our own pitch!! Our pitch was a good size with plent of room for our caravan, awning and car, also giving us enough room to sit out. The toilet facilities were excellent.
The shower blocks had hot running water and were very clean. there was also fresh flowers and music which made using public facilities much more pleasant! On site the facilities included a well stocked shop containing many of the things that you usually forget!! There was a fantastic playground facility for children along with a games room. Also on site there was a butty box which came very much in use at the weekend.

The atmosphere within the park was very friendly, and the wardens were constasntly checking that all the parks facilities were in order at all times.

I would recommend this site to any of my family/friends. We have even booked to return this year as we felt that this site was excellent!!

Thank you to all the staff at South Lytchett Manor Caravan park for making our stay enjoyable! You are all a credit to the site.

Having just spent a relaxing week at this site I just had to write a review not normally what i do but the staff were very friendly and informative about the surrouding area. The pitches were spacious with all the mod cons to hook up to. The toilet/shower blocks were 5 star with fresh flowers and piped music throughout. The butty box provided us lazy campers with mamouth breakfasts in a bun and piping hot tea. All in all a 5 star site with excellent facilities and excellent staff, well done we'll be back!

Having just return from a weekend away at this site, i wanted to say how impressed i was with the Park. The wardens were brilliant very friendly and made us feel very welcome. The toilets and washing facilities were always clean. It was a lovely weekend and would recomend this site to anyone. The Caravan Park has a very friendly feel but also gives you room so your not on top of your neighbours. Will be going again and would recomend it to anyone.

Professional Reviews

If there ever was a friendly site this is it. Nothing was ever too much trouble
no matter how small or large. The welcome you are given is kind and with a smile
which is all you ever want! But to top it all the site is a credit to the owners
and all their staff. Neat tidy and very well presented and we've seen a few! A
great dog walking area that is safe and enclosed lovely for anyone who likes to
play ball with your dog. The pub is within walking distance a pleasant stroll
through the site and down the road way. A rare addition along with immaculate
facilities is the super shop with many things that campers either forget to
bring or find the ultimately need and it's not over expensive. Well done South
Lytchett you are highly recommended.
Good point to remember too you are not too far for the ferry at Poole being a
useful stopover.

Practical Caravan Top 100 Parks Award 2008

Set in lush grounds that were once part
of Lytchett Manor, this is an attractive and welcoming site. It came under new management last year, and every corner of it has been given attention.
The washrooms have been updated and increased in number. They are now heated and regularly decorated with fresh cut flowers. The separate washing-up and laundry facilities have had a good going over, too.
The pitches have all been levelled, and electric hook-up and TV aerial points have been added to many. A new shop and games room have been built, too. The play area is next on the list of improvements.
The site is in an excellent location to explore the east Dorset coast. The ancient port of Poole is a short drive away. The history of its harbour stretches back to the 13th century and has been used by pirates, fishermen and timber traders. As well as a walk along the waterside, visit the old quarter – there are more than one hundred historic buildings here.
A fun trip from Poole is a visit to Brownsea Island. This island, in the middle of Poole Harbour, is a safe haven for wildlife, especially red squirrels. Regular ferries make the 25-minute trip from Poole Quay.
A little further down the road is the seaside resort of Bournemouth. The town stretches along a large, sandy beach that is perfect for swimming and sandcastles. There is also plenty of family entertainment on Bournemouth Pier.
