Spending your motorhome, camping and caravan holidays exploring Yorkshire? Then why not consider giving Craken House Farm Camping & Caravan Site just outside Leyburn a try.

This is a family run campsite in Leyburn, North Yorkshire – current owners Lynn and Richard took over from Lynn's parents Marjorie and Glynn, who established the site more than 30 years ago – and it welcomes tents, caravans and motorhomes.

The campsite is open between April and October. All pitches on site include electric hook-ups, and there's no extra charge for awnings or for the use of the site's showers. This is also a dog-friendly site and there's no additional charge for bringing your four-legged friend, but they must be kept on a lead and walked in the designated dog walking areas – and owners must remember to clear up after their dogs.

Craken House Farm has separate male and female toilets, showers and washrooms, all of which are free to use. Also free to use is the utility room where you can do your washing up, plus there is a sink for washing clothes, as well as a spin dryer. The campsite also has a chemical disposal point.

There isn't an on-site shop, for the simple reason that within a mile of the campsite are shops that sell all the essentials and much more – there's even a petrol station within half a mile of the site. This is an advantage of being on the edge of a town and the market town of Leyburn has a broad range of facilities, from shops and banks to pubs, restaurants and takeaways. But the campsite does have what it calls its Information Room, a great place to go if you're new to the area and you want to discover all the best things to do in North Yorkshire and the area around the campsite.

If you're going for your motorhome, camping and caravan holidays in Yorkshire, what things are there to do? Well, many people will of course want to explore the Yorkshire Dales. The Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority has produced a handy phone app to help you do just that. As well as the amazing views and wildlife to take in, there's plenty to do if you want to get active, including walking, mountain biking, fell running and horse riding. There are also places to go to play golf and to go fishing near Craken House Farm Camping & Caravan Site.

Leyburn is also less than an hour by car from Ripon which has an ancient cathedral, while Fountains Abbey, a ruined but well preserved Cistercian monastery is also nearby. The Wensleydale Creamery in Hawes, Wensleydale, is only about half an hour away, too – visit for the story and no doubt taste of Yorkshire Wensleydale cheese.

Fancy visiting a castle on your camping, motorhome and caravan holidays? Then you're in luck as Bolton Castle, Richmond Castle and Middleham Castle are all quite close to this campsite, as are the striking Aysgarth Falls.

A rather more unusual but no less entertaining day out could be at The Teapottery in Leyburn. This is where to go if you want a quirky, fun teapot – and there is a visitor centre that is open all year round.

Craken House Farm Camping & Caravan Site has been praised by visitors for the warm welcome they've received and for the wonderful views they have been able to enjoy across the rolling Yorkshire countryside. If you want to see what the fuss is about, why not get in touch and book today.
