Erwlon Caravan & Camping

Season Open all year

Owner's description

Erwlon is a family run park with a warm welcome and excellent new facilities including a heated amenity block, family rooms, laundry, super pitches, a motor caravan service point and plenty of landscaped pitches available. Within easy walking distance of the ancient borough of Llandovery and at the foothills of the Brecon Beacons, Erwlon is an ideal base for touring, walking or cycling in South West Wales. You can get to all the primary attractions and coastal resorts of South and West Wales within a comfortable drive of about a 1 to 1.5 hrs and we have a number of circular tours you can follow to take in the beautiful countryside on your way.

Alternatively you can just sit outside and watch the red kites fly overhead, spot the kingfisher along our river bank or even snatch a glimpse of a wild mink. If your feeling athletic take in a little golf, hire a bike or go fishing - they are all available and you can take a stroll into the town in the evening for a drink and meal. Visit our local heritage centre and find out about the Bank of the Black Ox, "Twm Sion Cati" or the tales of the old "Drovers" (which explains why Llandovery used to have so many pubs).

For the kids why not take a tour down the "Big Pit" and go below ground again at the Showcaves at Dan-yr-ogof or even look for gold with a guided tour of the National Trust's Dolaucothi Gold Mines. If they want more excitement have a thrilling ride at the Oakwood theme park or take a jet boat around the islands off Pembrokehire but if you really want to tire them out let them go pony trecking or mountain biking instead! Oh! don't worry we've even got a few ideas for the under fives and over 70s!

We pride ourselves on our friendly welcome (in Welsh if you wish) and we have been running the park alongside our dairy farm for three generations now so we must be doing something right. Please come and see for yourselves - you won't be disappointed!

This site was a very pleasant, quiet and well presented site. site fees very reasonable. Also children liked the small park on the site. Each hard standing pitch appeared to have its own water supply which I found really good. I Particularly liked the family toilet facilities which I have not seen on many other sites. If there was one criticism of the site it was that the toilets had not maintained the standards of the loo of the year award which it won two years ago, and did have an aroma in the gents and ladies toilets when visiting. This was the only downfall of what was otherwise a very good site.
Would return at some point in the future.

Erwlon did every thing it said on the packet.
The Wardens gave us a very friendly welcome and nothing was to much trouble. They were helpfull when we needed caravan spares and told us of some nice walks.
The site was so peaceful and the toilet facilities were amongst the best we have visited in our 12 years of caravaning.
We will return to this site.

We were first time motor-homers and Erwlon had everything we could possibly need as a family with a seven year old son - adventure playground, open space for kicking a football, family rooms with toilet, wash-basin, shower, hairdryer and changing area plus it is close to town. Lots of lovely walks, beautiful scenery, dogs welcome. Hardstanding with electric hook-up and water. Laundry/dish-washing room and a fridge freezer should you need it. A great site and we will definitely be back.

A warm welcome to the site.
The new toilet block & showers are excellent and coped well with a full site over August bank holiday. The first time in 24 years caravanning we have had a hard standing with our own water and waste facilities in UK. A very clean and well run site. We will be back!!.

Practical Caravan Top 100 Parks Award 2008

Resting just inside the Brecon Beacons National Park, this site has views of the mountains and plenty of activities. Walks leave from the site, nearby Llandovery is good to explore, and pony trekking and fishing are available in the local area. Grass and hardstanding pitches with electric hook-up and water points are placed around the central washroom, washing-up and laundry facilities. A play area and
recreation field are also on site. From the site’s riverbank you can spot kingfishers and, if you are lucky, wild mink.

Practical Caravan Top 100 Parks 2007

Erwlon is a pretty, family-run site located alongside
a picturesque babbling brook at the foothills of the Brecon Beacons. Ten static caravans are positioned alongside the stream and once past these you will be pleasantly surprised at how the site opens up into a large spacious field for tourers, with a centrally located amenities building. Past the touring field is an area for tents.
The park is located within two-thirds of a mile of the ancient borough of Llandovery, which is rich in history and mysticism. Perhaps the most famous tale about these parts is the legend
of the Lady of the Lake.
The site owners have added some nice touches such as free boosted television aerial signal,
an extensive play area for children, and dogs are welcomed.
The superb amenities building is second to none. Along with the usual male and female showers, there are a further four family washrooms, all containing excellent baby-changing facilities, and all are suitable for disabled users. The launderette and the dishwashing area are also located in this part of the site and, as you might expect, all are finished to
a very high standard.
The site is being continuously developed by the owners, who have sensitively landscaped the area with shrubs and flowers. They plan further work to the main entrance and security
systems over the coming year.
As the site is located just inside the Brecon Beacons national
park there are fabulous views of the mountains, and there are plenty of activities near at hand to make this site a great spot for a week away.

Practical Motorhome independent site reviews Feb 2007

The entrance to the site is well signposted from the main A40 Carmarthen-to-Brecon road. There is good access with plenty of room to park, and a new reception is being built.
Erwlon is owned and run by the Rees family. Mr Rees senior started up the campsite in 1956. It has evolved over the years from a basic farm site into the very pleasant and picturesque place that it is today.
The jewel in the crown here must be the superb amenities building which is one of the best I have ever experienced. There are the usual men’s and ladies’ rooms containing showers,
washbasins and toilets.
In addition there are four
family/unisex rooms at the front of the building. These contain baby changing facilities and are also suitable for disabled use.
The remainder of the site has been improved by landscaping and the owners have plans for further work.
The site is just inside the Brecon Beacons National Park, so the views of the mountains are quite stunning. There are many activities nearby which include pony trekking, fishing and many good walking routes. Llandovery, only a ten-minute walk away, has many public houses where good meals can be enjoyed.
