This is a fantastic site. The showers/toilets are kept spotless. The staff are friendly and helpful. It has a fantastic pub on the site with the best entertainment I have seen on any caravan site, the bar prices are very reasonable and you are guaranteed a good night out. There is a restaurant called Poppy's on the site and the food served is lovely, they do a fantastic Sunday lunch and a good breakfast and everything is cooked fresh for you. They also do a take away menu. The site itself has beautiful views and we have stayed on numerous ocassions enjoying it so much that we have put our caravan on for the season. If you are in Devon give this site a try you will not be dissapointed.

We have been camping and caravanning for many years now. A number of years ago a friend recommended Widdicombe Farm to us and we've spent all our holidays there ever since. Although it's quite a journey for us it's certainly worth it in our opinion. The facilities are spotless, the restaurant is excellent and very reasonably priced, the entertainment is the best we have encountered so far on any campsite........but what impresses us most is the warm welcome we get every time we visit. The staff and owners really go out of their way to make sure we have an enjoyable stay, it feels as though nothing is too much trouble.
This year the site has become adults only and I have to admit we like the newfound peace and tranquility that this brings. Please don't get me wrong, I love children, but I think there are enough touring sites around for some to be just for adults.
There are many regular visitors to Widdicombe Farm and it's lovely to meet old friends when you visit. With so many people returning time and time again the owners are obviously doing something right!
We will be travelling to Widdicombe Farm again tomorrow.......we can't wait!!!

Being just one of many regular visitors to this site,we've just returned from our 3rd break this year.iI didn't think it could get much better by becoming an adults only park but it has.It is now so much more peaceful and even the great evening entertainment has benefitted from the lack of small children shouting and crying.I think children are great - I work withg them and I used to be one myself! There,s also an added bonus -there are now bargain breaks in July and August now (can't be bad can it? Everything else is just as good as always - owners, office staff and wardens are as friendly and helpful as they've always been - the restaurant serves delicious reasonably priced home made meals and the facilities are kept spotlessly clean at all times. What more can you ask for? I can't wait for our next visait and I'm sure there are many otherswho feel the same..

Having recently stayed at this site, I have to agree with the first reviewer in the fact there is a constant noise from the busy duel carriageway, and there are a lot of rules and regulations, especially the one in the toilet block (which is a bit old fashioned) about wiping down the sink after you have used it, in all my years of visiting sites, that was a first for me.

What the site does have going for it, is the pub/club is one of the best for entrainment and a lot of lovely, friendly people do use the site.

What a FAB site - the best weve been on so far! We stayed on the adults only field and it was so lovely and quiet. The toilets etc were spotlessly clean and ive never seen a chemical toilet disposal so clean. We didnt use the bar so cant comment but the little shop was useful.

The only little niggle is that we stayed on the B field and children were coming up and using the toilets which really should have been adults only as a few times they were unsupervised and didnt flush - a sign would have been useful.

On the subject of signs we didnt think there were too many - we didnt see many at all! THe site is just off the ringroad so you do end up driving most places but a bus does run into Torquay if you request it.

Overall it is a fab site and well worth a visit - we think it should be a 5 star!

I was disappointed.
The name of the site alone leads you to think of idyllic settings in a rural environment. This is not the case. The park is situated in earshot of the A380 – the constant whoosh of vehicles nearly led me to leave the site within minutes – at a less busy time of year I would have found something else and moved on, leaving my money behind – I felt that strongly.
There is a list of rules and regulations which are (in my opinion) heavy handed and out of place in this environment – the comment about windbreaks being “un-neighbourly” was particularly pointed as your “neighbours” were some 15ft below you separated by an Armco barrier.
The wash facilities were basic and not warm at all – something I thought was a thing of the past – maybe it’s me!
I felt it was expensive for what it was – we will definitely NOT be going back, unless it’s the only thing available!!
I am not alone, everyone I spoke to had a grumble about this site.

response (13 Sep 2006)

We have owned Widdicombe Farm for 35 years and we hope the business will continue within the family for many years to come! Not many touring parks are able to say this.
Over 75% of our customers are repeat bookings and a high number of bookings are from customers who have been recommended. We pride ourselves on our warm friendly atmosphere, hospitality and the welcome given to all our visitors from our family and all the staff.
Unfortunately, Mr Whiles and his family did not come into our reception and make us aware of any issues or complaints they had whilst staying on our park. Had they done so we would have had the opportunity to discuss the matter in full and hopefully been able to resolve them to everyone's satisfaction. Mr Whiles' family stayed with us for a nine-day period and we believe there was ample time for them to approach one of the reception staff or to have completed one of the Customer Feedback forms that are freely available on the reception counter. We were surprised and disappointed to read his comments on your web site without prior knowledge of any issues they had. We are committed to ensuring wherever possible that all our guests have an enjoyable and pleasant memorable stay with us and we feel disappointed if a customer leaves unhappy especially if we had not been given the opportunity to resolve their issues.
As stated in our promotional literature we are situated on the A380, thus providing very easy access to our park with no narrow or twisty lanes to negotiate, so typical of Devon. This is especially ideal for those towing long caravans such as Mr Whiles and ideal for those not used to towing. We had not received any other complaints regarding noise from the road however; it is occasionally audible by those staying on the top terraces of the park when the wind blows in a certain direction. Also as our park is situated on a hillside most of the pitches are on terraces providing superb views of the surrounding farmland and countryside. Therefore for peace of mind and as a necessary health & safety feature some terraces have Armco barriers on the outside edges.
In response to Mr Whiles comments regarding our rules we would like to make it clear that our Terms and Conditions have been compiled over our 35 years of experience and by listening to the needs and desires of those staying with us. These terms and conditions serve to provide a safe, organised and enjoyable touring park experience for everyone on the park. Widdicombe Farm is after all a smaller family run park not one of the larger parks with the associated attractions and children's clubs etc and people comment on how comfortable they are on a well organised park.
We were most surprised by Mr Whiles comments regarding our wash facilities as we are always complimented on the cleanliness of our superb facilites. We have received a 4 star rating again from our Quality in Tourism inspections. This rating has been maintained for over 15 years and we are very pleased at this. Mr Whiles family came to stay with us during the peak period in August and we are concerned that on occasion the water was not as hot as it could have been. With over 200 pitches and 3 amenity buildings to service throughout the park there were times when the demand was too great within a concentrated period of time and our system struggled to cope to the usual high standards. This will be reviewed to establish if improvements are necessary.
The facilities provided along with the free entertainment in the Hayloft Clubhouse are good value for money and our tariff is competitively priced being comparable to other similar touring parks. Finding a touring park to accommodate a large caravan and a dog during peak periods can be difficult as many parks will not take dogs during the peak months of the season.
Finally, as stated above we were all disappointed that the Whiles family did not enjoy their time with us. This may have been avoided if they had spoken up during their stay. We hope that upon reflection Mr Whiles reconsiders his comments about not coming back as we are sure the family could have a more enjoyable stay with us sometime in the future.
A copy of our response has also been sent directly to Mr Whiles.
