There are a number of walks in the area – including the Tissington Trail, which follows the old railway line from Ashbourne to Parsley Hall – as well as a variety of outdoor pursuits. Nearby Carsington Water offers bird-watching, water sports and fishing facilities, while Poole’s Cavern and Buxton Country Park have 100 acres of woodland and the high-wire forest adventure Go Ape!
There’s more excitement at Alton Towers theme park, while for a more relaxed day out there are several National Trust properties and stately homes nearby, including Sudbury Hall; the 18th century mansion of Kedleston Hall; Haddon Hall; and Chatsworth House. Crich Tramway Village is also nearby, as is the spa town of Buxton with its magnificent architecture and world-famous opera house.
