Dunnet Bay Caravan Club Site is a quaint campsite in the Scottish Highlands. Open from early April until early October, the site welcomes members and non-members of the Caravan Club. The park has 56 pitches, predominantly welcoming motorhomes and touring caravans onto the site, although there are two pitches reserved for guests with tents.
Facilities available at Dunnet Bay Caravan Club Site include a toilet block and laundry facilities. Such is the location of the Dunnet Bay site that it is regarded as the perfect place for a family holiday in a quiet, relaxing location. The park offers stunning views over the bay and towards Dunnet Head, the furthest point north on the UK mainland. Most families and couples wanting to get away from it all will find staying at Dunnet Bay is the furthest you can go from your everyday life without heading abroad!
Dunnet Head itself is a relatively small hill, and it is well worth climbing it because from the top you will gain a wonderful panoramic view of the surrounding area, including across the sea towards the Orkney Islands. Just imagine how wonderfully fit you could be if you walked or ran up this hill to check the view and assess the weather for yourself every morning during your motorhome and caravan holidays in Scotland!
Many guests choose to take the ferry from John O’Groats across to Orkney’s Mainland, which has some amazing shops as well as being one of the most popular places close to the Scottish Highlands for bars and restaurants. Some also choose to spend their time island hopping and visiting more than the Mainland, with plenty of attractions to be found on the other islands. Taking the slightly longer ferry journey to the Shetland Islands should also be considered a 'must' when you're considering places to go and things to do on holiday in Scotland's Dunnet Bay.
The area is huge with wildlife lovers, and particularly bird watchers, with many species unique to the area, with some able to be spotted throughout the year with others only being seen during migratory periods. Do you like bird watching holidays? If so, whether you're an expert or a beginner, why not go on the bird watching ferry trips that are available around the north of Scotland for those wishing to have a guided tour of the area and have the best bird life pointed out to them.
Many of the towns and villages close to the coast are thriving fishing communities, and guests staying at Dunnet Bay will have the choice of heading out to sea with local fishermen. You can go sea fishing or freshwater fishing in the rivers of the Scottish Highlands. Guests who aren’t interested in catching the fish themselves will find plenty of amazing restaurants, shops, and stalls selling fresh seafood, while many even do a seafood shop, buy a freezer box from the supermarket, and take what they’ve bought home at the end of their stay!
A wide range of local amenities are found in nearby Thurso, with supermarkets, bars, and restaurants all available for guests not wanting to travel across to Orkney. Take a scenic drive along the north coast of Scotland, because this is a good way to get to know many great villages. If you are looking for something different, you could join the tourists flocking south and spend time in Inverness, Nairn, and Elgin, where there are many leisure and entertainment attractions as well as fishing, golf, and much more activities to enjoy on holiday.
Dunnet Bay Caravan Club Site does make a wonderful location for a quiet family break, while offering plenty to do during your motorhome and caravan holidays in the Highlands.

Tent pitches - yes. And nice pitches, too.
But there are only two(!) of them - for practical purposes, that does not count.
