Its name says it all – you can't get much closer to the sea than Bay View Park, just yards from a shingle and sand beach. The site is situated along a private road on the East Sussex coast and just two and a half miles from the famous resort of Eastbourne. And, as its name suggests, there are sweeping views of Pevensey Bay and the English Channel.
The grassy six-acre campsite is divided into touring areas, with 70 pitches for touring caravans, tents and motorhomes, and static caravans are available for holiday hire and for on-site purchase. Touring pitches include 16A electric hook-ups, although there are additional spaces without electricity during high season.
The static caravan holiday homes at Bay View Park are equipped with TVs, a fitted kitchen with a microwave oven and a shower room. Each home is connected to mains electricity, with gas-fired cooking and heating. A duvet, pillow, sheets and covers are provided for all beds, so guests only need to provide towels and tea towels.
Facilities within Bay View Park – for all guests whether using the touring area or the holiday homes – include a new reception and shop, which sells essential groceries, fresh bread and dairy products, newspapers, magazines, toys and ice creams, together with caravan and camping accessories and spares. The site is also a stockist of Calor Gas.
There are refurbished and regularly inspected toilet and shower facilities, with free showers, plus a launderette and waste disposal. Children under 10 years can enjoy the play area in addition to the beach at Pevensey Bay.
For the grown ups, adjoining the park (and under the same ownership) is an attractively landscaped nine-hole, par-4 golf course with practice nets and a putting green. Special discounted rates are available for those staying at Bay View. A professional PGA golfer is on hand to provide lessons – bring your own clubs or you can hire a set for your round. The Bay View Club House, meanwhile, serves light refreshments, wine and beer throughout the day plus occasional Saturday night barbecues on the deck, overlooking the golf course.
For those who simply wish to relax, Bay View Park is a peaceful campsite. It has been awarded three pennants by the AA and the David Bellamy Gold Award for Conservation, reflecting the site's concern for wildlife and the local environment. Supplies are sourced locally whenever possible to reduce the number of deliveries to the park, plus waste is minimised with recycling facilities on site. Staff and visitors alike are encouraged to reduce energy usage where possible in this wildlife-rich environment.
If you've pitched at Bay View Park on your motorhome, camping and caravan holidays in East Sussex, you're within easy reach of numerous attractions. Eastbourne town centre is accessible by public transport; the attractive Sovereign Harbour, with its many cafes, bars and restaurants, is within walking distance. Also in the harbour are a cinema, retail park and numerous independent boutiques along The Waterfront. You'll find plenty going on here with entertainment in the bars and restaurants, boat trips from, and guided walks around, the marina. You can even cycle to Eastbourne along the Eastbourne to Pevensey Bay Cycle Path.
Eastbourne is filled with year-round entertainment, including its very own air show, international tennis (a warm-up event for Wimbledon), open-air concerts and festivals. Or just enjoy a wander along the beach – maybe followed by tea and cake at one of the town's tearooms.
