Threaplands Caravan & Camping Park

Skipton, North Yorkshire

Threaplands Caravan & Camping Park is a beautiful family holiday destination found in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales. Situated in the charming village of Cracoe, between Skipton and Grassington, the park is an ideal base for families looking to explore the stunning Yorkshire Dales region as well as the rest of West Yorkshire.

Part of Threaplands House Farm, the campsite sits in spacious surroundings, with pitches that are suitable for motorhomes, touring caravans and tents. Toilet and shower blocks are among the range of facilities on offer to guests, and if you need storage for your touring caravan, this is offered to guests, which is ideal if you're planning to return to the site for more holidays in the future.

Just down the road in the village you'll find a handy local pub, The Devonshire Arms. And if Cracoe looks familiar to you, that could be because the original Calendar Girls, made famous in the film of the same name, came from here.

Guests who love the outdoors will always enjoy a stay at Threaplands Caravan & Camping Park. You can start numerous walks right from the campsite and perhaps walk a section of the famous Pennine Way. Cracoe village sits beneath Barden Fell and high on the skyline you'll see Rylstone Cross and Cracoe Pinnacle.

The Tour de Yorkshire section of the July 2014 Tour de France did much to boost the popularity of cycling, even in the hilly Yorkshire Dales. If you enjoy cycling, why not explore the area on two wheels, perhaps using mountain bikes? There are bike shops in Skipton, Gargrave and Grassington if you need any repairs or spares.

Go horse riding in the fells during your tent, motorhome and caravan holidays in the Yorkshire Dales. Adults and children of all abilities and ages are welcome at the riding stables in Skipton, Draughton Riding Centre (www.draughtonridingcentre.com). Kilnsey Trekking and Riding Centre (www.kilnseyriding.com) is also near Skipton and offers pony trekking, horse riding and riding tuition for adults and children from the age of four; able and disabled riders; beginners, intermediate riders and advanced riders. Other riding stables are available throughout the Yorkshire Dales.

You can explore the Yorkshire Dales at your own pace, or join in with one of the guided tours that take place on most days. These tours can be simple exploration days rambling across the unspoilt landscape, or they may be designed to include visits to a number of the tourist attractions that are found in the region, including farms and museums. See www.yorkshire.com for ideas.

Anyone who loves golfing holidays will like this location, because Skipton Golf Course (01756 795657) is close to the park and offers beginner and taster sessions with a professional golfer. Even if you're not playing, you can pop in to the clubhouse for a meal or a drink and enjoy the fantastic views. If you're playing golf here you'll be able to see Sharpshaw, Crookrise and Embsay Crag. The last nine holes of the course offer the interesting challenge of a water course coming off the surrounding fells, Eller Beck.

Fishing is also available near here, because there are several rivers, streams, and ponds running through the Yorkshire Dales, with great spots for fishing, as well as gentle riverside walks.

The nearest town to Threaplands Caravan & Camping Park is Skipton, a popular market town that attracts visitors from across Yorkshire and beyond. Markets are held on at least four days of the week, and are great places to pick up a bargain as well as sample some amazing local produce, particularly that provided by the farmers of the region.

Skipton also has a number of exceptional locally run businesses, with gift shops and quirky cafés complemented by a number of traditional country pubs. Holiday essentials and groceries can also be picked up from a number of convenience stores found in the town.

As well as being a wonderful place to spend a day, Skipton also acts as a perfect gateway for the rest of West Yorkshire, with trains and buses running from the town on a regular basis to Harrogate, Leeds, and York. These towns can also be reached in the car within an hour, with main roads easily accessible although scenic country routes, while taking longer, are also a great way of seeing the region.
