There is a regular bus service from Whissendine to nearby Melton Mowbray, Oakham and connecting to Stamford.

The National Byway Cycle Trail passes close to Greendale Farm Caravan & Camping Site and it’s only a few miles to Rutland Water.

Around this huge scenic reservoir are walks, cycle tracks and bird-watching at Lyndon and Egleton nature reserves. Here, you may be lucky enough to see the only breeding Ospreys in central England. The season is mid March until August.

On Rutland water you can take a cruise on the ‘Rutland Belle’ to the iconic Normanton Church Museum.

Rutland Sailing Club is home to a range of water-sports.

Close-by are Barnsdale Gardens, scene of Geoff Hamilton’s ‘Gardener’s World‘. http://barnsdalegardens.co.uk/index.html

Our county town of Oakham is ‘rich in history and character’ with good quality shops, pubs, restaurants, Oakham Castle and prize winning independent Grainstore micro-brewery and pub.

Oakham is a classic English market town mentioned in the Doomsday book of 1086.

Discover all the historical points of interest by walking the Oakham Heritage Trail.

For memorable days out in the area – why not visit Belvoir Castle, Easton Walled Gardens, Rockingham Castle or Burghley House. Visit http://www.hiddenengland.org to find out if there is a “Passport Offer” available (seasonal). Or enquire on your first visit.
Melton Mowbray is only 6 miles away. Another historic market town famous for pork pies and Stilton cheese. The annual Food and Drink Festival is held here each October.

Ideally placed for walking, cycling, watersports, birdwatching, shopping and visiting pubs.

A very clean and tidy site. Very quiet and relaxing. The onsite shop was a delight with an honesty box for purchases. The owners were very friendly and helpful. Not convinced that the site is dog friendly more dog tolerant.

This site is the Ritz of caravan sites. Adults only and perfect for a couple, singles or a stop over with the motorhome. They have a shop, a swimming pool and only 15 pitches. The showers/toilets are extremely clean and you can sit on the loo and look at photos of the wildlife that visits the site on the back of the loo doors! The grounds are absolutely immaculate and doggies are made very welcome, as long they are exercised off site. The lane just outside is absolutely perfect and there is a public footpath across the fields directly behind the site. We were made to feel so welcome and Sue and Ian were very helpful getting us set up and level. The site is extremely quiet and wonderful for a relaxing break. Greendale has a David Bellamy Gold Award and there are lots of bird feeders and nesting boxes around the site. It's great sitting in your caravan and watching them all. Close by you have Rutland Water, Oakham and Melton Mowbray. The nicest caravan site we have ever been to - and we've booked to go again in July when the pool is open - can't wait! Very well done Sue and Ian and keep up all your good work.

BEAUTIFULLY KEPT - IDYLLIC
A beautifully kept campsite in an idyllic location. A refreshing change to stay somewhere without children, though not why we booked initially. It was a pleasant surprise. Appreciated the informative booklet & your care for the environment & sustainability. Thank you so much, we will be back one day I’m sure.
