Pierre-Francois and Clare Dupond are waiting to welcome you to Castel Val de Cantobre.....situated in the heart of the Grands Causses Regional Park, not far from the Tarn Gorge and the Cevennes National Park.

Just over 30 years ago Pierre-Francois' parents found what they thought would make the perfect base for a camping and caravan site....a medieval farmhouse with outbuildings, next to the Dourbie River with land on the spectacular valleyside.
Today we offer you the opportunity of enjoying the breathtaking scenery that surrounds us, as the piches are arranged on terraces looking down
the valley and over to the cliff like tops of the gorge. Certain pitches have the privilege of a view across to Cantobre village perched on it's rocky promontory. The farm buildings now house many of the facilities....they're certainly not lacking in character.....the oldest wall dates back to the 11th century!

From the moment you cross the bridge over the Dourbie and enter our reception we will do our best to look after you until you have to leave us.
On arrival you'll be presented with a folder full of information about the site and the region. We'll then accompany you to your accommodation or pitch. Every morning you can opt for the luxury of having freshly baked bread and croissants delivered to your doorstep. Cleaniliness of our toilets and showers is extremely important for us as we know clean facilities are high on the list of priorities for most campers/caravanners....our staff are on the spot in the washblocks practically all day to ensure the facilities are up to your expectations. To keep you occupied and entertained, we have a varied events programme all season adapted to the visitors at any one time...but we also make sure those just wanting to relax are also respected.

Mentioned as early as the 12th century, the fief of Vellas was a hideout for forgers in the 15th century. It is thus easy to understand that the architecture of the premises seems to feature an incredible number of hiding-places, which are all now nicely set off for the different facilities of the campsite. Between the Dourbie and the Causse, the facilities are worthy of an exceptional site.

In the heart of the Grands Causses Regional Park and bordering onto the Cévennes National Park the Val de Cantobre is superbly situated for exploring this region which takes in the Tarn and Jonte Gorges...and is just 25 minutes from the new Millau Viaduct! Val de Cantobre nestles in the Dourbie Valley and the domain is terraced enabling most visitors to have a view from their accommodation down the valley and some have the privilege of a view across to Cantobre village clinging to it's rocky promontory! The site is set aound a medieval farmhouse which in bygone days, during one period, even hid away money forgers! Today the cosy vaulted bar and the restaurant, with tradional French cuisine on the menu, are housed within these thick stone walls.

The Grand Causse area is the perfect destination for orchid lovers, with over 60 different species to be seen throughout the year. Spring is always the best time to see the largest variety and that is when you can see the two endemic orchids of the area; Aveyron orchid is only found on Causse Larzac and Aymonin’s orchid is only found in the Grands Causses.
Because the area is mainly limestone, orchids thrive on the meadows here. Across the whole Causse region you will come across meadows which are full of Orchid spikes – Military, Lady, Monkey, Early Purple, Fragrant, Burnt and Green-winged all grow in good numbers. The wooded areas often hold masses of White, Narrow-leaved and Red Helleborines while it is not uncommon to come across Birds Nest Orchids in unusually high numbers.
