Somers Wood Caravan Park

Coventry, Warwickshire

An impressive adults only campsite that's open all year, Somers Wood Caravan Park is on the mature woodlands of Packington Estate, close to the historic city of Coventry and county town of Warwick – it is well worth a visit.

Caravans, motorhomes, trailer tents and campervans are all welcome to pitch here – but not tents. A standard pitch can accommodate two adults, a dog and an awning, and has a 10A electric hook-up. There are 48 pitches in all, plus four fully serviced pitches. Every pitch is hardstanding and has a satellite dish connection point.

In fact, this is an award winning campsite which features in Caravan Sitefinder, Practical Caravan and Practical Motorhome's Top 100 Sites Guide 2014. Visitors have described it as an "absolute gem", praising the well maintained facilities and the fact that it is quiet and peaceful.

If you want a night off from cooking, some local Indian and Chinese restaurants will deliver takeaway meals to your pitch, which is awfully convenient – you'll find leaflets in the campsite's information area. Or head into the village of Meriden which is nearby and has a decent shop and pub.

If you're staying at Somers Wood Caravan Park, you can be assured a warm welcome.

Open all year.

Lovely site. Very clean and friendly. Situated in woodland making it quite unique. Tranquil marred by early morning take offs by nearby airport, children (who we assume live on site and a day of continual log cutting. The latter points stopped us giving an additional star.

Having bought our first Motorhome in June, Somers Wood was our very first trip out, we have stayed 3 times and will continue to use the site to visit family in the West Midlandse, or perhaps an event at the NEC nearby.

Somers Wood is such a calm and peaceful site, shower blocks and site facilities are always pristine. The site team are always very friendly and helpful.

There is so much to love about Somers Wood and it's always a joy to return. All the team work hard to keep the facilities & grounds looking immaculate, yet they've always time for a cheery word or to help in any way they can.
There are a range of pitches and many of them offer enough space for our 8.5m motorhome plus car - and if we had a porch awning there would be room for that too, all on the hardstanding and still a lovely area of grass alongside.
The village, just a 20-minute walk away has a useful range of shops plus 2 pub/restaurants. Adjacent to the park is the golf club with bar meals and at weekends the restaurant is open. We didn't visit on this trip but have sampled both on previous occasions and always a pleasant experience! Somers Wood lives up to it's 'Tranquil Touring Park' title - the loudest sound is that of a vast array of birds encouraged to visit continuously because of the many bird feeders around the park . Lots of places to visit within easy reach by car or bus so we will definitely be back!!

This was our third and last visit. We loved the site for a lot of reasons, but this time we felt that it had slipped. Firstly the heating in the shower/toilets was very low, consequently we were cold and for the price, that shouldn't be the case. Secondly although they have built an extension for the washing machine and dryer, it's rather expensive compared to other sites and more importantly, the windows onto the toilets open onto the extension and washing dishes while listening to somebody use a toilet, isn't very pleasant. Finally, which is probably the main reason why we will not return is because I took my dog for a walk in the early morning (nobody else around) and was shouted at (rudely) by a warden because she wasn't on a short lead. I hold my hands up - he was right and I apologised, but there are ways to treat customers - which does not include shouting.

Oh dear! As is usual reviews are left anonymously but we welcome your comments. It is just a shame that you didn't call into reception to discuss your issues with either Marc or myself face to face during your stay. However I am more than happy to address them on a public forum:- The heating in the shower block is as always on a timer to come on for several hours in the morning and again in the evening to cover the main showering times. The dish washing sinks and high level windows are in exactly the same place that they have been for the last 18 years. What you may or may not be able to hear has not changed! We have just enclosed this area to make it more comfortable for our guests to wash up in. The laundry is very reasonable if you choose to wash your clothes on a moderate setting. We will always have an issue with any of our guests who do not keep their dogs on a short lead whilst on the park. You have to respect that some people have an inbuilt fear of dogs and would be upset to see a dog running free! I am pleased that you have acknowledged you were in the wrong. We are sorry that you will not be returning to Somers Wood in the future and wish you many happy camping holidays elsewhere. Have a great Christmas and Happy New Year! Kind regards Angela, Marc & Team Somers Wood :-)

Bought our 1st MH in June and Somers Wood was our very 1st outing. The site is in beautiful woodland and very well organised. The toilet/shower facilities are excellent, enclosed washing up area, designated dog walking area which was lovely. Helpful staff when checking in, which was quick and easy. A mobile chip van visits on Friday evenings, and this is very popular. A tranquil first class site and superb facilities . Certainly visit again.

Somers Wood is a very friendly Adult only Site. About a mile from Meriden in the heart of the country, it has good access to Birmingham Airport and the NEC for shows and concerts. Facilities are very good and if you are a wildlife enthusiast, there is an abundance of wild birds in this rustic setting. You will be assured of a warm welcome from the owners here at Somers Wood.

Have just returned home from 8 days at this wonderful peaceful site. The staff were so friendly and helpful and the facilities spotless. The heating in the shower block at this time of year was great. For those of you with dogs there is an excellent walk along the service road at the side of the Park. We did not come across any cars on this road - just rabbits, much to our dogs delight.

Property manager response (31 Oct 2011)

Yes we agree, since the ex-service road that runs adjacent to the park has been made into a public right of way, it is ideal for walking your dogs or taking a quiet stroll. Thank you for your kind comments...... We look forward to welcoming you back sometime soon!

Toilets, showers etc spotless. The site itself is well cared for with a big emphasis on wildlife. I have just spent a week at this wonderful site and will be returning. Adjacent to the site is a golf course with a club house that serves good bar meals and also Packington Somers fishery

Hi Angela,

I just wanted to say the BIGGEST thank you for the bottle of bubbly you had waiting for Andy and I on arrival at Somers Woods on Friday – we thoroughly enjoyed it after our long drive! Andy said he had the “bestist” birthday ever, and that makes me the happiest wife  We thought your campsite was wonderful too, as did our neighbours on pitches 3 and 5, and will definitely be back!

Thank you once again for your very kind thoughtfulness and hospitality.

Best regards, and continued success for Somers Wood.

Somers Wood Caravan Park

Dear Somers Wood

We stayed twice in your park during April and we wanted to let you know that of the more than 15 parks we stayed in during our holiday Somers Wood was our favourite. Your facilities are outstanding, the park surroundings are so beautiful, and the welcome and assistance we received was of the highest quality.

Thank you for making our stay so very enjoyable.
