Antshill Caravan Park

A family-run, rural campsite within walking distance of Laugharne, Antshill Caravan Park is a lovely place to pitch on your holidays in Wales.

The campsite welcomes tents, touring caravans and static caravans, plus seasonal pitches are available. There are 60 well proportioned touring pitches with electric hook-ups, and facilities on site include a recently built amenities block, with showers, toilets and basins, family rooms, hairdryers and electric shaver points, plus there's a laundrette and a dishwashing area.

Younger guests will enjoy time at the children's play area, which has slides, swings and a climbing frame, and in the high season, the outdoor, heated swimming pool is always popular, especially if the sun is shining.

If the weather isn't so great, don't worry as there's still plenty to do at Antshill Caravan Park. Why not head to the campsite's Club House, where there's a kids room, bingo and, in high season, live entertainment. Sunday lunch is also served here, or enjoy a drink at the bar, munching bar snacks and watching Sky TV.

This campsite is merely a five-minute drive from Laugharne, a town which sits on the estuary of the River Tâf and which is famous throughout the world as it was once where Dylan Thomas lived. And as it will only take you about 20 minutes to walk into the town from the site, why not wander there for a meal out one evening when pitched at Antshill Caravan Park, to enjoy a night off cooking and maybe a drink or two.

Of course, the legacy of Dylan Thomas is something many people enjoying their camping and caravan holidays in Wales, particularly here in Carmarthenshire, will want to explore. In Laugharne you can visit the Dylan Thomas Boathouse, where the writer once lived and from where you can take in the same views across the estuary that he enjoyed. There's a tearoom here, too, serving light lunches, soup, cakes and snacks – as well as scones, Welsh cakes and bara-brith. There is also Laugharne Castle, you can head to the Tin Shed Experience (where you can see a collection of artefacts from between 1914 and 1945), visit Dylan Thomas' grave at St Martin's Church, or enjoy The Dylan Thomas Walk.

The small town of St Clears is just a 10-minute drive to the north of Antshill Caravan Park, but if you want to visit a more substantial place while on holiday try Carmarthen, which is still only about 20 minutes away along the A40. It lays claim to being the oldest town in Wales and as well as being a useful place for grabbing a bite to eat and topping up your holiday supplies, you could also enjoy a day out at the Norman Kidwelly Castle, the free to enter Carmarthenshire County Museum, or take a memorable ride on the Gwili Steam Railway, a restored and really rather charming standard gauge railway.

The stunning scenery in Wales is surely another attraction for those taking their holidays here and you can easily head up to the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, or south west along the coast to somewhere like Saundersfoot or Tenby.
