Bolton Abbey Estate Caravan and Motorhome Club Site (formerly Strid Wood)

Skipton, North Yorkshire

Bolton Abbey Estate Caravan Club Site used to be known as Strid Wood and it is a beautiful caravan park near Grassington, in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales. Open from late March until early the following January, Bolton Abbey Estate Caravan Club Site is renowned as one of the most popular and charming locations in the Caravan Club network. The site has 57 pitches available, all of which are hard standings.

Facilities available at the park include toilet blocks, a laundrette, motorhome waste disposal, and Wi-Fi internet access. It is open to members and non-members of The Caravan Club and the earliest arrival time is 1pm.

Guests are allowed to take their pets along to the park, and there is a designated dog walking area near here. In addition to this, most of the Bolton Abbey estate is open for dog walking and leisurely exploration.

The estate covers a vast area, and the length of the footpaths that wind through the estate’s woodland and countryside total over 75 miles. As well as these public footpaths being perfect for you if you are dying to satisfy your curiosity and explore the Bolton Abbey Estate, you're likely to meet a large number of wildlife enthusiasts and bird watchers on these routes and indeed elsewhere in the park. Take a riverside stroll along the banks of the winding River Wharfe, which is close by. If you like you can find a quiet spot to enjoy a day of fishing on the river.

Guests looking for somewhere to eat and drink closer to the site will find a couple of great country pubs within three miles of the park. It's just a short drive, or you can stroll along the riverbank to The Red Lion at Burnsall or the upmarket Devonshire Arms Hotel and Spa at Bolton Abbey.

Also alongside the River Wharfe, you will find the ruins of Bolton Priory, which was originally built in the 12th century. After the dissolution of the monasteries in 1539 the nave of the Priory was allowed to keep its valuable lead roof and continue as a parish church. Time, weather and locals keen to recycle building materials over the centuries have left the Priory in a state of romantic ruin.

Outside of the Bolton Abbey Estate, you can easily gain access to the rolling terrain of the Yorkshire Dales. Cycle hire and horse riding is widely available at numerous locations across the Dales. It's a great way to explore further into the Dales and enjoy more of the amazing views of the surrounding area.

The nearest town to the park is Skipton, a popular market town that has cobbled streets, a picturesque canal, lovely castle and a diverse range of cafés and other local amenities that the whole family can enjoy. Skipton also enjoys great transport links with the rest of Yorkshire, with trains and buses running to a number of towns and cities in the region.

Grassington is a small village found a short distance from Skipton, and also features a collection of local businesses, including pubs and restaurants, and is a quieter location for those preferring somewhere with less tourists.

When it comes to exploring beyond the Yorkshire Dales, you will have the choice of numerous wonderful Yorkshire towns and cities, with Harrogate, Leeds, and York all within an hour of the site. Guests looking to stay outdoors can spend time at Nidderdale or the Forest of Bowland, both Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Bolton Abbey Estate Caravan Club Site is a wonderful location for family motorhome or caravan holidays in the Yorkshire Dales. It's a picturesque and quiet place, yet with plenty to do and within reach of several amazing tourist attractions as well as the most popular towns and cities of Yorkshire. Stayed here for a family wedding, Wardens were fantastic & friendly, site was immaculate especially the toilet block, ideal for a quiet, get away from it all break as there is no mobile phone signal, looking forward to a chance to return to try some of the walks that are accessible directly from the site

Lovely wooded location on the bank of the river Strid. Great walks - although heed the warnings that the river can be dangerous in parts and keep the kids in sight.

Lovely tourist area for outdoor lovers - walks, pretty villages, Bolton Abbey etc.

Expensive car parks!!!
