Just a short distance off the Al and adjacent to the A66, you will pitch on a grassy, gently sloping site with magnificent views southwards over the Yorkshire Dales National Park. It's a waste to use this gateway to the Yorkshire Dales National Park merely as a stopover - stay for a few days and enjoy what the area has to offer. It's Hernot country, and you can find many of the locations used in the famous series. It's also the area where our greatest landscape artist, J M W Turner, travelled and painted and found the subjects for some of his most famous watercolours. The local Tourist Association publishes a Turner Trail leaflet and has placed seats at many of the places from which you can still see the beautiful views he saw.
