Stackstead Farm Campsite and Bunkhouse

Carnforth, North Yorkshire

Enquire Now You enquired

Stackstead Farm is an immaculately kept campsite with good facilities and welcomes people with tents, motorhomes and touring caravans all year round. There's also bunkhouse accommodation you can rent and a leisure centre with a pool on-site.

The Caravan Club affiliated CL area has five hardstanding pitches (with electric hook-ups) in a circle around a central grass lawn area, each pitch having gravel access. Pitches here cost from £13 per night for up to two adults and two children. Awnings cost £2 extra per night. Porch awnings cost £1 extra per night. No groundsheets are permitted on the lawn.

Situated next to the owner's farmhouse, the campsite is otherwise surrounded by fields. There is also a separate seasonal touring site for 36 touring caravans situated 100 yards away. Another tent camping area is available too, with room for tents up to four-man size.

In addition to the camping areas, the farm has heated bunkhouse accommodation available to rent. 'The Bunkstead' is housed in a traditional stone barn and sleeps up to 22 people in four separate bedrooms. You can either book the whole place or pay per person per night. Bedding is not provided, but there is a very useful drying room, showers and a disabled toilet. There's even a large fitted kitchen with cookers, fridges, crockery, utensils and a microwave. The toilets in the Bunkstead have showers and washbasins with electric shaver points. There's a lounge-dining area, too and the building is heated and carpeted for comfort. This accommodation is ideal for groups enjoying outdoor activities in the North Yorkshire National Park. No stag or hen dos are permitted.

Bunkhouses like this one are especially popular with groups of walkers, climbers, potholers and cyclists, who enjoy the challenging local terrain near Ingleton, famous for its limestone rocks and huge underground caverns, some of which are open to the public.

The Three Peaks Challenge brings many walkers to the area. If you're feeling energetic, you can climb Ingleborough at 2,373 feet, Whernside at 2,418 feet and Pen-y-ghent at 2,227 feet. Nobody minds if you don't attempt the entire 26-mile route all in one go!

But the bonus of your stay at this peaceful little campsite is the small leisure pool together with a sauna, spa and gym on-site. There are views of Ingleborough from the pool and sauna and there's no time limit on how long you can spend there – so it's perfect on a cold winter's day! While you're staying at Stackstead Farm CL campsite you can use the leisure centre for an entrance fee of £5 per person or £3 per child.

Stackstead Farm enjoys fabulous views of Ingleborough and Whernside and is located just a mile from Ingleton, a picturesque village in the North Yorkshire Country Park.

The Masons Arms, a real ale pub with good food, is five minutes walk from the site and Ingleton's Waterfall Walk starts just one mile away and is a short 4.5-mile walk.

This site is near the Settle to Carlisle railway, so it's worth taking a train ride through the magnificent scenery, too.

Visit Ingleborough Show Cave in Clapham (www.ingleboroughcave.co.uk), which has entranced visitors since 1837, and is well lit and accessible even for pushchairs. Dogs are allowed on leads. Or visit White Scar, the longest show cave in Britain, right in the heart of the North Yorkshire National Park (www.whitescarcave.co.uk).
