Ferryfields Holiday Home Park

Winchelsea, East Sussex

Ferryfields Park is a quiet holiday park found in the charming, historical town of Winchelsea. The park is an ideal retreat for exploring the surrounding countryside, and offers static holiday homes for hire in East Sussex as well as holiday caravans for sale, for those looking to make Ferryfields Park their permanent holiday destination.

Winchelsea today stands on the site of the old medieval town, and there are plenty of reminders in the architecture of the old town about ‘New Winchelsea.’ The town offers tremendous views out across the sea, while the active community in the town is always welcoming to guests. Events and shows take place in Winchelsea throughout the year, while those staying at Ferryfields Park are able to get involved in local clubs and societies should they wish to. Winchelsea also has a museum along with a range of other cultural attractions.

Winchelsea Beach is a short walk away, the village leading onto the charming sands and down to relatively calm seas. The beach is popular among guests staying at Ferryfields Park, while tourists often travel from the surrounding area to enjoy it, too. Winchelsea train station is just 650 metres down the road, so you could enjoy your holidays here without a vehicle.

For the best beach in the area, pack a picnic for the day and drive to Camber Sands. This long sandy beach offers safe bathing and paddling and plenty of space for family ball games. There are several large car parks behind the sand dunes.

The popular walled hilltop town of Rye is a few miles from Winchelsea and we'd thoroughly recommend that you spend time exploring the cobbled streets, ancient pubs, potteries, old fashioned shops, tea rooms and the castle. Near the harbour you'll find tourist information, and next to that is the large model of the town, with its fascinating audio tour of Rye's past as a major smuggling port. You can buy freshly caught fish from kiosks by the harbour.

Guests that enjoy spending time at the coast should also head to Eastbourne and Hastings, both popular seaside resorts but with plenty to do in town, too.

Close to Ferryfields Park, guests will find miles of open countryside, woodland, and farmland to explore. An Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is found a short distance from the park, and allows guests to enjoy a range of activities, from easy to do pursuits such as walking and cycling to climbing and horse riding. There are also plenty of fields found close by for guests to organise their own ball games and activities. Geocaching is also gaining in popularity and there are several points that can be explored across East Sussex and even into Kent.

East Sussex has a range of days out on offer that the whole family can enjoy. Knockhatch Adventure Park has a diverse collection of wildlife, including animals and birds of prey, while just for kids is indoor soft play, crazy golf, and more. Drusillas Park is considered to be the best small zoo in the UK, and combines exotic animals with a large adventure play park for children of all ages, steam train rides and numerous other activities to great effect. Lovers of sea creatures can head to the Blue Reef Aquarium, in Hastings.

Other fun family days out include Ashdown Llama Farm and the Brighton Toy Museum, while families with very small children will find plenty of indoor play centres. Many of these are open to older kids, too, ideal for rainy days.

Brighton is less than an hour's drive away and offers a lively day out. Enjoy fairground rides on the pier, ride on the big wheel for far-reaching views over this unique seaside city, and pick up fresh fish and chips, candyfloss, shell necklaces and art on the prom. Or head into the heart of Brighton for an array of shops, galleries, theatre, cinema, nightclubs, pubs and live music. Brighton's Royal Pavilion and the adjoining museum offer cultural delights for anyone who loves seeing opulent furniture and artwork and discovering more of the town's exciting past. For something completely different, how about taking the Brighton Sewer Tour? Anyone over 11 and physically fit can take a guided tour of the tunnels beneath the city, which are over 150 years old.

Those who don’t mind travelling further will find further fun days out to be enjoyed in Kent, while anyone feeling extra adventurous should drive to Dover and take the ferry across to Northern France.
