The caravan site in Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire, owned by The National Trust, is on the banks of the River Great Ouse with spectacular views across the river to the Trust's Houghton Mill, the last working watermill on this river. Milling demonstrations are held every Sunday during the season and visitors can purchase the flour.

The site is situated on the fringe of the highly picturesque village of Houghton, with a wealth of timbered and thatched-roof cottages, pub and shops, and the whole surrounding area is a paradise for walkers, bird watchers and wildlife enthusiasts.

There is an abundance of footpaths and bridleways for walkers, horse riders and cyclists along and across the proliferation of waterways.

A compact but pretty site adjacent to a working watermill, on land which is owned by the National Trust.
The pitches are all grass, somewhat undulating but generally very spacious and well tended with hook-ups (16A) to all but a couple of `economy` pitches.
The toilet block is to normal Caravan Club standards, but as there is provision for tents on site can become overly busy when the site is full. Unusually, all water provision is next to the toilet block, worth knowing when selecting a pitch!
Situated on the banks of the Great Ouse, it is in a very picturesque location (the tent pitches are next to the riverbank), with lots of walking direct from the site, and boats can be hired behind the watermill, which boasts a N.T cafe with superb scones made from flour ground in the mill.

The village of Houghton is a couple of minutes walk and boasts many thatched properties, and excellent shop with good fresh provisions as well as the usual newspapers etc.,and there are also two handy pubs serving food and real ale within an easy stroll of the site.

Perhaps not the most child-friendly site having no play area and being next to open water, but I would highly recommend it.

St Ives, Huntingdon, Cambridge are all within easy reach, but readers with long outfits may wish to check first with the site as access can be tight.
