Nostell Priory Holiday Park is a charming and secluded holiday escape set in 200 acres of beautiful National Trust land – a perfect retreat in rural West Yorkshire. This campsite is ideal for those looking for a destination that is quiet, peaceful and truly away from it all, nestled within Priory Estate, Wakefield.
The park is open from mid February until early January, and welcomes motorhomes, touring caravans and tents. There are also a number of residential caravans that can be purchased for permanent living or for visiting whenever guests need a holiday. The park also sells pitches on a seasonal basis, with guests able to purchase a full or a half season pitch, as well as three- or one-month ones. And how about trying forest camping? Set a short distance away from the main site, this is for guests looking to camp beneath the main woodland canopy.
All pitches at Nostell Priory Holiday Park have electric hook-ups. There are shower and toilet blocks on site, plus a small store so you can stock up on everyday essentials, and there's also a laundrette. Kids will love the small playground, while there is also an on site bowling green. If you need something to eat or drink, fill up at the on site Snack Shack, which sells a selection of food and drink, while the Woodside Retreat is a wonderful part of the site ideal for barbecues. For your peace of mind, entry is via electronic gates, there is 24-hour CCTV and a professional security team operate here, too.
This is a five-star park that also holds a gold David Bellamy Conservation Award. Indeed, Nostell Priory Holiday Park is ideal for families that love the outdoors. There are miles of woodland and countryside walking routes to discover, as well as several trails that stay within the site and National Trust property itself. Guests will also find a selection of lakes and small rivers where they can spend a relaxing day fishing either alone or with their family. Or enjoy a wander around Anglers Country Park, which is less than 10 minutes from this campsite.
There are lots of things to do in Yorkshire on your motorhome, camping and caravan holidays. Wakefield is just a 20-minute drive away, Leeds is about a 35- or 40-minute drive away, Doncaster is about a half hour drive from site and it'll take you around an hour to drive to Sheffield.
And if you're pitched at Nostell Priory Holiday Park, why not enjoy time discovering the Peak District National Park. Whether on foot, on your bike, on horseback or just meandering in the car, there are beautiful landscapes, lovely towns and villages and so much more to explore. There are lots of walking paths and cycling trails for people of all ages and abilities, or you could try caving, rock climbing, fell running, sailing, windsurfing and canoeing – there is even an open air swimming pool at Hathersage. Or how about having a go at gliding, paragliding or hang gliding?

Used this site as stopover after work being done on motorhome. Definitely not for tourists! Pitches muddy, unclean and too close for comfort - overhanging trees made it too dark.
Most on site were workmen. Shower block surprisingly good.
Would never use again, nor would I recommend.

I agree completely with cgoulden's review. I wouldn't recommend anyone to stay. Half the pitches appear to be "residential" and the levels of noise are unacceptable for a touring site.
We complained, left a day early and were promised a refund for the night we didn't stay, but the refund has never arrived, despite their promises.

We stayed at this site for 3 nights only in April 2008. It is a very boggy, wet site with deep ruts made by 4 wheel drive vehicles which don't appear to have ever been flattened or filled in. The hard standing pitches are small and our small porch awning overstretched onto the grass, it is advised to park cars in the car park when the weather is wet, if you don't have a 4 wheel drive please heed this warning! No views from pitches with overhaning trees making rainy nights especially noisy. Due to there being some residents on the touring site noise first thing in the morning was a problem, cars revving etc with people going to their places of work from 5.30am onwards, also lots of traffic due to the large residential site at the rear, all the traffic passes the touring site to get off the site and our pitch was beside the drive. Staff are extremely friendly but the shop isn't very good, not many lines stocked. No bread, milk etc when I went in. Showers dated but very clean, on our last morning there was no hot water for my shower however. Good laundry. Lovely walks around the park. Wouldn't recommend this site for anyone wanting to spend days in the caravan relaxing. Expensive for what it is charges extra for dogs and awnings, unsure if children are charged as extras as we didn't have any.
Property manager response (30 Dec 2008)
Winter 2008, we are putting in a tarmac area for getting to/from pitches, and a drainage system. This should stop the "wet" areas.
