Burns Farm Caravan and Camp Site

Keswick, Cumbria

Enquire Now You enquired

Tucked just a mile from the village of Threlkeld, and three miles from well known Keswick is this idyllic site on a traditional working farm.
Tourer or motorhome, Burns Farm has a pitch to suit.
There are 30 spacious hardstanding fully serviced touring pitches with grey water disposal, water and 16 Amp electric.
Here, pitches are very flat and well drained with options to include grass with and without electric, plus 5m x 12m hardstanding fully serviced pitches which are separated from each other by a 3m x 12m grass seating area.
Camping is in a large field with gorgeous mountain views of Blencathra, Skiddaw, Helvellyn Range, Causey Pike and other beautiful mountains. The 360 degree views are really something to be seen.
You're welcome to park next to your pitch and light up a campfire, the perfect way to keep toasty and stargaze from your pitch at night.
Dogs are welcome to join you on your holiday.
This is a Dark Sky site, with only low watt lighting in use so that you can enjoy excellent stargazing.
With stunning scenery from the edges of our fields wherever you cast your amazed gaze, you just need walk off the site in any direction and it won't be long before a hill comes under foot. From some of the highest ground in England, to the loveliest walk on a disused railway line by the River Greta, this is one of the greatest places to take your boots. It will be tempting just to get your chair out and sit on the site admiring the idyllic surroundings, but be adventurous, lace up those boots and get amongst it!

Made the booking over the phone and asked if I had to pay a deposit (which I would have preferred to do). The owner said no, as I was a previous customer. Went to let them know we had arrived, only to be told that she did not have us booked in. She made me look a liar in front of my family and other campers, who we had already told that we had pre-booked. She tried to make out that I was only making an enquiry, rather than a booking, but when she said this she had not realised that my partner was playing at the Keswick Beer Festival the next day and that we had known for months that we needed a definite booking for a Keswick campsite (which I believed we had). Anyway that left us looking for another site at 5.30 pm., and us ending up about 16 miles outside of Keswick, with a lot of extra driving to and from Keswick. I booked this site as my daughter liked it the last time we visited, but we will not be returning, and will not be recommending it to anyone else.

Property manager response (12 Jun 2012)

You arrived at reception at 5.30 on the Jubilee bank holiday and said you had made a booking. We didn’t have you on our system, our Email records showed your enquiry, and that we had sent you an Email booking from for you to fill out and return as confirmation. To reserve a pitch at our site during peak times, it is our procedure to make sure people have written confirmation before their arrival and it is their responsibility to bring a copy of this with them as proof of booking. Neither confirmation nor proof of booking was provided by your. I offered you a pitch for 1 night, which was reserved for a Saturday booking. This was rejected, it was all I could offer you, Your partner mentioned a booking he had made at the beer festival campsite not sure if you had got your booing’s mixed up by enquiring at both but not reserving either.

We stayed at the park for 10 nights and found the Landlady extremely helpful. The showers were hot and clean. What I would say is if you are going to stay alongtime at this park make sure you ptch your tent in an arear that will not flood.
Well done. Will be back next year.

Booking was simple enough and very friendly owners of the site. A great welcome.
Unfortunatley, the site was not found to be quiet, tranquil or relaxing. Very large groups were active in the main until 11pm, some beyond. DVD players being used without headphones, thus impacting on others quiet time. Tents were positioned far too close, my concern was for possible fire spread. I have found better showering facilities at National trust sites. The water temerature was far too cold. Showering facilities were struggling to cope with the demand. We left 2 days early. I wouldnt reccommend this site to a couple or single traveller, however I am sure its great for kids! I will not be returning.

Guestbook reviews

Absolutely fantastic, haven’t been for a few years and the 2019 upgrades to the caravan pitches made life much easier with hard standing pitches, grey water drain & tap & fresh water tap for each pitch no refilling water bottles anymore! Stunning location, very clean facilities & very friendly & helpful owners. Would highly recommend.

Burns Farm Caravan and Camp Site

One of our favourite places to camp in the Lake District. Literally everything you could want from a campsite including magnificent scenery, peacefulness (even though it’s a working sheep farm!) clean wash/toilet facilities that are regularly cleaned and the owners are very friendly and helpful too.
You can buy fresh eggs from the farmer’s young enterprising son who collects them every morning.
I’m a runner and there are countless trails nearby so plenty to go at with the Lakes close and the busy, picturesque town of Keswick is a short drive or a decent hike away with lots of shops and good places to eat (check out the two ice cream parlours making their own and you can run it off later)
Dogs are welcome on the site on leads so get booked in and enjoy the hospitality!
