Absolutely dreadful pitch!
I don’t like to rant about a place unless it’s something I need to get off my chest or warn other fellow visitors. This place had me fuming right from the start.
We booked Cove Park as we’d visited approximately 4 years previously and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Needless to say we won’t be back again!!
The location is fantastic and on its website Cove Park boasts about its views of the lake...
“We are nestled in the hills above Ullswater, sheltered by trees and the Cumbrian Fells. We have the most wonderful views right across the lake to Barton Fell and High Street”
We booked 4-5months prior to our trip on this occasion and asked for a pitch with a view. We were told by the wardens that the pitch we’d been allocated was one of the better pitches.
When we arrived, the park was busy, it was August bank holiday after all. We weren’t bothered about how full the park was but more so by the dreadful pitch we’d been given 😢.
Our only view (unless we stood on tip toes in our van) consisted of the rear end of another caravan less than 4metres from our caravan window! ( I’m sure for fire regulations this is illegal).
We definitely didn’t have a view of the High street or Barton Fell.
However when the van in front left it was replaced with a bigger van and the full awning ensured we were not even to get a glimpse of the trees let alone the Lake. Unfortunately as we had no where else to sit outside we had to sit by our awning which meant we were looking straight into a clear glass toilet window of the van in front. We literally had no where else to sit so we moved back inside our van.
On looking around the park there are pitches with brilliant views, not obscured by other vans. I understand someone has to stay on this dreadful pitch (Number 23, I think, numbers not clear on some).
I’m aware a visit or stay in the lakes isn’t all about sitting outside looking at the view but we picked this park based on its location and the views it boasts from its Park!
It’s been updated since we first came and the tiered pitches they’ve put in clearly don’t work! Something needs doing about pitch 23!
It really spoiled my bank holiday away.
Worse pitch on the park...if offered this avoid even if there is no caravan in front at the time as your view will be non existent as soon as a van parks in front. We may as well have been pitched up against a white wall (window up against).
The quiet park over the road from this might well be our next visit!

We spend four nights at Cove Park recently. Although access was a bit of an adventure it was well worth the effort. The warden helped us move our caravan into position and said that she would return for the payment when we had settled in. Not many people would be that trusting!! The facilities were excellent and clean and there was a book in the foyer of the shower and toilet block with the menus of local restaurants ets. The weather was shocking but the site was very quiet and just what we were looking for.

great site, very friendly and helpful staff. The kindness shown by the warden (even at 11:30 pm on a cold, wet rainy Friday night) on my very first outing with my caravan I will never forget, thank you Mr Warden. The site is close to Ullswater lake and Glenridding and Pooley Bridge, and has some great walks from the site. We stayed for 5 days and enjoyed every minute of it! We would recommend this site to anyone who has any doubt about touring or camping. The toilet and shower block is always clean and tidy and site is also well maintained, a credit to both the warden and his wife, excellent.
