Tarn House Caravan Park offers caravan holidays near Skipton, a lively market time set right in the heart of the South Yorkshire Dales. There are touring pitches, static holiday caravans to hire and sales of caravans and holiday lodges and log cabins. If you buy a holiday caravan, lodge or cabin at Tarn House, you can stay here as often as you like for 10.5 months of the year.

It's a peaceful and picturesque campsite and holiday park, with mature trees and lovely countryside views. It makes a good base for caravan holidays in the Dales.

During your caravan holidays in Skipton, you must visit Skipton market, a colourful event that takes place four days a week, on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. There are also good pubs, shops and restaurants in this bustling town.

Visit Skipton Castle, a beautifully preserved medieval castle that dates back more than 900 years old. Once Skipton was called 'Sheep town' in Saxon. Then came the Norman Conquest of 1066 and the de Romille family built a fortress castle, which attracted the regular market, which continues today. Skipton and its castle suffered in the Civil War, but was renovated in the 1650s. Wealth came to Skipton's inhabitants on the back of the wool trade. Roads, a canal and a railway all helped the town to prosper, making it the interesting place it is today.

Skipton Craven Museum and Gallery, is worth a visit, too. Housed in Skipton Town Hall, this museum has collections of archaeological finds, costume, art and displays that reveal more about the area's local history.

Best of all, Tarn House is right in the centre of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. In fact, Skipton calls itself the Gateway to the Dales. Explore 680 square miles of this rugged National Park and also the Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The Ribble Valley is just west of the campsite, too.

Tarn House Caravan Park itself offers a large touring area, with 16 Super Pitches with electric hook-up, water, drainage and a TV connection point. The pitches have been levelled and there's room to park a car next to your caravan and awning.

The campsite has good shower block facilities, with washing-up and chemical disposal points.

If you fall in love with this location, you might want to leave your caravan on its pitch all season. There are seasonal touring pitches here, and the owners also offer winter storage for your caravan, subject to availability.

All owners and visitors to Tarn Caravan Park are welcome to visit the Country Inn – the bar and restaurant at the Tarn House Hotel. On Sundays there's a carvery, and on Friday and Saturday nights you can also get meals in the restaurant. Daytime bar snacks are on offer, too. On the last Saturday of the month, there's usually live entertainment in the bar in high season.

Commercial vehicles are not permitted on the site.

Other good places to visit near Skipton include the market towns of Bentham and Settle and the villages of Clapham, Grassington, Ingleton, Kettlewell and Malham.

To the east are Bedale, Masham, Pateley Bridge, Harrogate and Ripon City. To the west are Dent, Kirkby Lonsdale, Sedbergh and Kirkby Stephen.
