During your caravan holidays in Skipton, you must visit Skipton market, a colourful event that takes place four days a week, on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. There are also good pubs, shops and restaurants in this bustling town.
Visit Skipton Castle, a beautifully preserved medieval castle that dates back more than 900 years old. Once Skipton was called 'Sheep town' in Saxon. Then came the Norman Conquest of 1066 and the de Romille family built a fortress castle, which attracted the regular market, which continues today. Skipton and its castle suffered in the Civil War, but was renovated in the 1650s. Wealth came to Skipton's inhabitants on the back of the wool trade. Roads, a canal and a railway all helped the town to prosper, making it the interesting place it is today.
