Peter the owner is lovely man, a cyclist himself who welcomes cycle tourists , ( although probably not now that I forgot to return the laundry room key, sorry Peter I am putting it in post today.) The facilities were clean and I had use of microwave and kettle

Overpriced disappointment.
This site was more than double the price of another site in the same week, so we were expecting something special. We had camped at a much cheaper site right next to a river, with cleaner and less crowded facilities. We had to queue to use the showers which hadn't happened at all our other cheaper sites. The site did not even seem full. We felt cheated and very disappointed because of the price. They thought we wanted electric hook up and when I queried this as I had not ticked the box saying I needed hook up on the form we filled in, this was shortly after our arrival, she would not refund us the difference and there seemed to be plenty of space in the non hook up area. There were awful queues to get onto and out of the site caused by cars parked in an area that should have been reserved for vans and cars checking in and out at reception. We also had to get out of the car to raise the barrier to get out. Although there were arches under the railway line that may have been suitable to camp under in rainy weather there were signs up advising of falling masonry and it was impossible to get into the site without running this risk. The site was noisy due to it being near a busy road. The receptionist seemed to be away much of the time and there were queues building up to speak to her. I don't like feeling cheated and I cannot even find their website advertising their prices. We felt ripped off.

Disappointed. No castle anywhere in sight as shown in advert blurb. OK site ruined by overuse of inadequate number of toilet facilities. Sluice problems for emptying toilets. Disinterested staff & offhand manner. Won't return.

The site is clean and tidy but extremely noisy from the adjacent A7 road. Traffic stops and re-starts at the nearby traffic lights adding to the noise which goes on throughout the night. There are no children's facilities despite being shown on the website. They have been closed but no attempt has been made to re-open them.
The toilet facilities are very limited with only two showers for each sex.
The owners were most unhelpful and verbally aggressive.
This is definitely a site to be avoided.

We camped here for 3 night, its a lovely clean park with great toilet facilities. Showers were really good too. The bridge is breath taking and our children loved camping at it. The site is a great base for sight seeing and there is lots to see and do. Tesco is just up the road so nice and handy. We thought that we had hit upon a site that we would visit time after time, sadly the ground is not great for pitching a tent on pegs only went in so far then would not budge, tried to pitch in a few areas but the same happened. Spoke to woman in the office who said no one had never complained before. My brother inlaw and friend also had the same issue when they tried to pitch their tents! We will need to buy all new pegs before next camping trip. The site is on the A7 so a very busy road that is non stop but that didnt stop our kids from sleeping which was good. All in all its a lovely site and if we had a caravan we would revisit time and time again, but sadly not with our tent.

Very disappointed. We are Caravan Club family members and have been for some time, but thought we'd try this site. Tried to book a touring pitch for myself, hubby and 2 x teens but were refused on the grounds that our family vehicle that we chose to pull our caravan is a Volkswagon Transporter (modified) van with windows (we also use our Vauxhall car - but use the van can transport pedal cycles too). I thought it was odd that they'd actually asked for details of our tow vehicle, until I was told they 'don't take vans' - end of story ! It made me very sad !

My family and I stayed in one of their newly built self catering holiday homes and can highly recommend it to anyone that is wanting a nice clean, modern place to stay for a quiet weekend away. We all loved the quirkyness of it being located under the viaduct, it added to the appeal of the place. It is not far from a 24hr Tesco which is very handy and some lovely places to eat and drink. It is handy to have a car as you can explore other places roundabout. Our only complaint is that we were only staying for two nights and were just getting settled when it was time to leave. We found the warden very pleasant and helpful and we are all definetly going to go back for another weekend - a longer one this time.

We stayed here for two nights when visiting Edinburgh. It cannot be described as picturesque more as 'dramatic', being sited under a victorian viaduct and on the main A7, just a couple of miles north of the Mining Museum. The facilities are adequate and spotlessly clean. It is very convenient if you are keen to stay near the city or tour the small villages around this area. Unfortunately for us,it was just too noisy. The site wardens were not easily available and the security gate arrangement was a bit haphazard (one had to leave the vehicle to open it and then again to shut it) which meant it was often left open. Neither of the photos show this site which is a pity.
