This is an excellent location for walkers, as the park is just a short distance from the Western lakes and fells, including Ennerdale, Buttermere, Wastwater, Crummock, Loweswater, Scafell and Great Gable.
The park is a short four-mile journey to the village of St Bees on the Cumbrian coast with a beautiful beach and a variety of shops to enjoy. There is also a train station so you can visit surrounding areas including Carlisle, on the West Coast Main Line to Glasgow, Edinburgh and London.
Smithfield Park is also four miles from the harbour town of Whitehaven, which is great for shopping, the Beacon Heritage Centre, the Rum Story attraction and the local hospital. A short drive south of the park is Ravenglass with its miniature railway running to Eskdale and Muncaster Castle, famous for its beautiful gardens and owl centre.
