Buxton Caravan Club Site is a popular family holiday site, set underneath a rocky hillside, just outside of the town that gives it its name. The park is on the edge of the Peak District National Park, and is ideally situated for guests looking to explore this beautiful area. Buxton Caravan Club Site (formerly called Grin Low), is open from late March until early November, welcoming members as well as non-members of the Caravan Club.

The park has 117 pitches in total, with two available for tents and the rest for motorhomes and touring caravans. 112 of the pitches are hard standing. Facilities available on the site include a toilet block and laundrette, while Wi-Fi internet access is also provided for guests during their stay. A dog walking area is designated for those planning to take the family pets to the park.

With the Peak District on the doorstep, there is plenty for guests to do during their stay. Miles of countryside and moorland offer numerous routes and trails for walking or cycling, with the choice between designated, popular tracks and heading off the beaten path. Guests also have the choice of flat, gentle routes that lead out from the park, which is in the heart of the valley floor, or tackling the more challenging terrain and rolling hills of the area. Those taking on challenging routes are rewarded by fantastic views across the whole area.

Though the Peak District is perfect for walking and cycling, there are plenty of places for guests to head to across the park. With museums, National Trust properties, cave and cavern systems and much more to discover and explore, the Peak District truly has something for everyone.
The town of Buxton is popular among all tourists in the area, with the Pavilion Gardens attraction one of the most regularly visited sites nearby. The Opera House is also a huge attraction in the town, and brings visitors from across the United Kingdom, particularly in the summer festival season when a range of cultural events take place to celebrate the arts, usually from mid-July to August.

Derbyshire is famous for its ancient custom of well dressing, with Buxton being one of the main places that this colourful tradition is maintained. Three wells will have floral displays and church blessings and the whole town will get into a carnival mood for a week in early July each year.

When guests have explored Buxton to its fullest extent, similarly charming market towns are found nearby in Leek and Ashbourne, although tourists can expect to encounter several other towns and picturesque villages while exploring the Peak District.

There are plenty of streams, rivers, and lakes nearby for those looking to indulge a passion for fishing. Most fishing locations also offer open space for ball games and other activities close by, so are great for family days out even if only one of you is planning to sit by the water with a fishing rod.

Buxton Caravan Club Site is ideal for exploring the rest of Derbyshire, Lancashire, and the north Midlands, as well as the Peak District. If you have children, it's well worth noting that you can use this campsite as a base for a day out at Alton Towers, which is one of the most popular theme parks in all of the UK. If you would enjoy a slice of northern city life during your holidays in Derbyshire, why not take a short drive north to explore Manchester, where shops and entertainment attractions are found in abundance.

Having tackled the winding and narrow roads of Derbyshire the approach to the site is through the country park itself, you then drop down into the bowl of the quarry where the site is, with steep cliffs behind it which are home to some nice bird life.

There are two exit and two entrance barriers, presumably to avoid queuing traffic clogging up the country park road. We were the last arrival on the Friday evening and we were told we could choose a pitch ourselves. The warden stated that all the pitches were the same size and not to go on the grass at any price (it was very soggy). The CC web site says tents are welcome and a tent area is marked on the map but the sign on the entrance says no tents.

Grin Low is a long thin site which does mean that the toilets are a fair hike (especially in the rain) from some of the pitches. The toilet block is old and not very externally appealing but it was very clean inside which is the main thing. It is closed from 10.30-12 for cleaning. Drying room for wet coats. Washing up sinks with hot water but signs state you cannot wash BBQ’s in the washing up sinks. Plenty of bins/taps/toilet emptying drains. Two motorhome dump points in the road so easy access whichever side your outlet is on.

Pitches were generally level and the one we had (99) had just two pitches on their own with grass behind which made the pitch lovely and big. All pitches seemed to be well drained. Play area on site looked ok.

Site is very quiet at night but also very dark. All the electric bollards appeared to have lights but only a few were ever lit. Also a few streetlamps but still very dark! You could hear the aeroplanes at times but it was no problem.

Grin Low Country park nice for walking but no cycling allowed in the park which meant you had to go on the main road to get to a lot of the local cycle paths. Solomons Temple looked good but is in the middle of a cow field. The cows looked placid (we saw a dog chasing them/barking at them and they weren’t bothered) but we decided not to chance it with the dogs. Lots of sheep in the area so keeping dogs on leads is sensible. The walk to Pooles cavern through the woods was nice and they did a lovely cup of latte!

Morrisons in Buxton (3 miles) sold everything we needed for a weekend. Chip van on Fridays well worth the queue!

A nice site – we probably wont return because of the lack of cycle routes off the site but if you are a walker it would be great

What a lovely relaxing park right next to Grin Low Country Park. A short walk from the park takes you up a fairly easy hill to Solomon's temple which has fantastic views of the surrounding hills. Good size pitches, clean toilet block and very friendly wardens who cannot do enough to help. Fish & Chip van visits on a Saturday night - saves cooking!! Oh, and a butchers van visits site in case you'd rather have a BBQ!! Definitely will return to this site again.
