Peace and tranquillity reign at this attractive site, making it a haven for wild life and a bird watcher's paradise. Hill walkers will enjoy the splendours of the nearby Simonside Hills. A place where you can breathe fresh air, feel space and open countryside around you and slough off the troubles of the everyday world. All is peace - and yet this countryside has seen some of the hardest-fought border battles in our history. The Romans had their border conflicts too, and you can see how they solved them with Hadrian's Wall, in the south of the county.
