Glucksburg Woods, Norfolk

Enquire Now You enquired

When you combine the high standards of The Caravan Club caravan parks with the glorious setting of a royal parkland, you end up with a superb caravan site. The Sandringham Estate Caravan Club Site is in Glucksburg Woods, situated right in the heart of HRM the Queen's beautiful country house retreat and has been redeveloped in recent years to a high standard. There are 138 touring pitches, of which 127 are hardstandings. The maximum length recommended for the pitches is 9 metres long, which should cover most caravans and motorhomes. The facilities at the caravan park include a toilet block with showers, as well as parent, baby and toddler washroom facilities. Wheelchair users and walking disabled people will find suitable facilities designed to assist them here. There's a dog walking area close by and the site is ideal for all the family. Wi-Fi is also available here. For motorhome drivers, there's a dedicated motorhome waste disposal point. The site is open all year. The earliest arrival time is 12 noon each day. Tents are not permitted on this Caravan Club Site and there are no holiday caravans for hire here.

This part of Norfolk is an excellent choice for motorhome and caravan holidays, especially if you enjoy walking and exploring on foot. From the caravan park itself you can stroll through to Sandringham House. If the Royal Family are enjoying their annual holiday here at the end of July and the beginning of August, the house will be closed. However, for the rest of the summer, from Easter to October, you can actually visit Sandringham House, the museum and grounds. Also open to visitors is the Country Park with its nature trails, land train ride, adventure playground and Visitors' Centre. Don't miss Sandringham's lovely tea room, gift shop and Royal Garden flower stall.

Visit the attractive and historic town of King's Lynn, just six miles away, for good shops and stroll in the old harbour area. For seaside holidays in Norfolk, it's probably best to go to Hunstanton, a lovely holiday resort with a sandy beach, colourful cliffs and a Sea Life Centre.

Visit Wells-Next-The-Sea for a long sandy beach fringed by pine trees and dotted with colourful beach huts. There's a small harbour here, too, where you'll find little fishing boats and individual shops. The town itself boasts pubs, restaurants, a park and elegant Georgian houses.

For shopping fans, Burnham Market is the fashionable place to visit – it's Norfolk's chic answer to London's Chelsea.

If you prefer wilder stretches of coast, the North Norfolk Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty offers plenty of those, too. It's an area rich in wildlife and particularly birdlife, so if you enjoy birdwatching or photography, this is an excellent region to visit. The Wash National Nature Reserve is very close to Sandringham.

Fulfil a popular ambition and go seal watching off Blakeney Point during this holiday. Take a boat trip from Blakeney harbour or Morston quay and you should get an unrivalled close-up view of the local seal colony, along with plenthy of seabirds.

Visit another beautiful stately home while you're in Norfolk, Holkham Hall, which overlooks a vast sandy bay. There's a good pub here too, and tea rooms. If you're feeling like a big treat, take a meal in the Victoria Hotel, next to Holkham Hall's north entrance. The hotel serves delicious meals using Holkham Hall's own game and beef, along with local real ales and fish caught just off the Norfolk coast.

Norfolk's 'Best Visitor Attraction', Pensthorpe, is also worth seeing. This is a conservationist's dream location, and is a great place to take children. The BBC Springwatch series used to be filmed here and it boasts nature trails, lakes, gorgeous gardens, shops, a courtyard café and lots of children's activities. It's just outside Fakenham, which is a market town.

We stayed at the Sandringham site as a first experience of a Caravan Club site, and were more than impressed with all that we found.

A speedy and efficient check in on arrival, and we were asked where we would like to be (the warden helpfully noted our son - so we had a pitch in view of the park), and were taken to a suitable pitch. We were in near distance of two toilet blocks, both kept in immaculate conditions. Water stations and waste disposal points were also well located, and enabled us to set up shop in record timing!

Even though the park was full on the day we arrived, the pitches were spaced well, so you did not feel clumped together. Some pitches are quite secluded through the use of trees etc, so could be very quiet.

There are two childrens play areas, a dog walk surrounding the site through the woods, a shop just off the site with easy access and stocking all the basics.

Toilets were spotlessly maintained, not much queueing for the showers, and the washbasins also had doors for privacy. Each block also has a family room complete with baby bath and stand. There are also laundry facilities - a wash is £2 - very reasonable, and also rotary dryers to dry your washing if needed.

The site is well located to nearby attractions, the coastal towns of west and north Norfolk, King's Lynn for shopping and of course the Royal estate of Sandringham.

We really enjoyed our stay, so much so that we have booked another week in August. Highly recommended.
