Set in the quiet and unspoilt countryside of North Devon, Smytham Holiday Park is in the grounds of the historic Smytham Manor. The campsite has a variety of attractions to keep the family entertained, but this is a quiet site, perfect for those wishing to escape the hustle and bustle of modern life, for those who want to enjoy the tranquillity of nature.
With 44 pitches and provision for caravans, motorhomes and tents positioned around the campsite, there's plenty of room to enjoy the open space. All pitches have electricity hook-up points and 16 of them are hardstanding. Dogs are welcome, but must be kept on the lead when in the main caravan park – they can be exercised off the lead in the designated dog walking area. Owners must clean up after their dogs and ensure they stay well behaved.
If you wish, the holiday park has log cabins or a camping pod available to rent. The three cabins each have comfortable sleeping arrangements with cots available free of charge; dogs are also welcome, so long as they behave. The holiday homes all have fitted kitchen facilities, toilets and wash rooms, and a veranda with patio furniture including a barbecue. The camping pod, effectively a log tent, offers all the fun of camping without the hassle of setting up a tent and keeping it dry. It features camp style beds, heating, electricity, lighting and a barbecue.
Of all the campsites in Devon, this offers great facilities. There is a solar-heated outdoor swimming pool which has just been upgraded with additional solar panels for extra warmth. You will also find clean and modern toilet facilities with underfloor heating and free showers. Located next to the toilet block is a chemical toilet disposal point.
There is also a games room at Smytham Manor Holiday Park which has pool, football and tennis tables – great if the weather turns. Outside this room is a large grass field where guests are permitted to play ball games. The reception cabin has a bar where adults can get a drink. There is also a shop to deal with most basic needs, and a payphone.
Devon is a popular place for motorhome, camping and caravan holidays and it is not hard to see why. There are lots of things to do in Devon and near this campsite you'll find plenty to keep the children occupied. The Milky Way Adventure Park and another amusement park, The BIG Sheep, are not far from the site. Combe Martin Wildlife & Dinosaur Park, Exmoor Zoo, The Alpaca Park and The Ilfracombe Aquarium are also fairly close to the campsite. The beaches at Westward Ho!, Widemouth, Croyde, Bude, Woolacombe and more are nearby, too.
For walkers and cyclists the park is ideally located on the Tarka Trail. It stretches for 180 miles around the natural beauty spots of North Devon and covers everything from wooded river valleys to rugged moorland, from sheer coastal cliffs to sandy bays.
There are many campsites in Devon, but those who have stayed at Smytham Manor Holiday Park rate it highly for the quality of the natural countryside and the variety of wildlife that flourishes there. They have also been impressed by the Tarka Trail and the friendliness of campsite's staff.
