18th March to 4th November

Oakdown Touring Park near Sidmouth in Devon is officially one of the best campsites in Devon! It welcomes tents, trailer tents, motorhomes and caravans, it offers seasonal pitches for those who want to leave their caravans here all year round. There are luxury static holiday caravans and lodges for hire and there are even holiday homes for sale at Oakdown.

We know that it richly deserves its AA Campsite of the Year 2015. It has also won so many other awards that we can't imagine the size of the wall needed to display them all!

This is no accidental glory. For nearly 40 years, the Franks Family has been carefully evolving Oakdown Touring Park from open meadowland to its current award-winning standard. There are no straight lines here: just gentle curves, spacious groves, seclusion, privacy and peace.

When readers of Practical Caravan and Practical Motorhome filled in their voting slips in great numbers, propelling Oakdown Touring Park into the Top 100 Sites Awards again, they made some lovely comments. Here is a selection. "On arrival we found the staff very friendly. They took us personally to our pitch. The site was well laid out – very clean and tidy, with plenty of water, refuse and waste points."

"This is a clean, well laid-out site with pretty flowers in patches throughout. Staff are very friendly and helpful. It's very reasonably priced over winter, too."

"Oakdown has immaculate facilities. The pitches are a good size and flat. The addition of Wi-Fi is a big bonus."

Oakdown received the Practical Caravan and Practical Motorhome 'Best Green Site Award' in 2013; so it isn't surprising that touring guests are welcomed to a delightfully landscaped park filled with trees, hedges and flower beds. There's a choice of level, non-serviced (no hook-up), serviced (hook-up) or super-serviced (hook-up, water and drainage) pitches.

Children will love the adventure playground with its web-like climbing frame, bouncy ride-on toy, swing and mini climbing wall. And everyone will love the Coffee Lodge and cafe, where you can go to enjoy a range of coffees, teas and cold drinks, and give in to the temptations of hot foods, cakes, pasties, sandwiches and in summer the ultimate Devon holiday treat – Devonshire cream teas. The Coffee Lodge opens up at 9am all season and it's a pet-free and smoke-free part of the holiday park.

Situated on the World Heritage Site Jurassic Coast near Sidmouth, Oakdown has a nine-hole short course, or pitch-and-putt golf course opposite and a walking trail that leads directly to Devon's famous Donkey Sanctuary. You could also take in a stretch of the South-West Coast Path from here.

Oakdown also has 16 new luxurious Leisure Lodges for hire. Each one of these is centrally heated, double glazed, fully fitted with a microwave, and fitted out with co-ordinating bed linen and duvets. Each lodge has a TV with Freeview and a DVD player. Each lodge has a spacious kitchen with a microwave oven, fridge and freezer, full electric cooker and vacuum cleaner. Lodges are suitable for to four-to-six people.

The heated shower rooms also have a hand basin and toilet. Each Caravan Leisure Lodge has two centrally heated bedrooms, one with a double bed and Flat Screen TV, while the other has two single beds - all with co-ordinating duvets and linen included in the tariff. The beautiful lounge has sprung seating, remote controlled flat screen TV, DVD player and electric fire.

The family try to think of everything you might need on holiday at Oakdown Touring Park and to keep you safe they have even bought a defibrillator for first-aid purposes.

the site was a delight and well kept all facilities were excellent clean, modern and secure, lovely play area for children, and the fact that the donkey sanctuary is just a field away was fantastic with some lovely level walks around the animals, we spent a lovely couple of days here and would recommend it to others and would have no problems returning for a visit there is also a lovely pub not far that did some lovely food

We visited this site after my wife noticed it was near to the donkey sanctury. On arrival we were escorted to our pitch by a very helpful member of staff, who explained where all the amenities were located. The nearby shower block was clean and well equiped, including two family bathrooms as well as the usual. We has opted for one of the 'super' pitches, so no lugging water or waste barrels for me! hye site has a small shop, WiFi and ecellent play area for the kids. This site is well located between Sidmouth and Beer (15 min drive to both), ideal for exploring this coast. As for the Donkeys... they are only a field away and WILL seranade you during the early hours. Great visit - will return. Oakdown Touring & Holiday Caravan Park, Sidmouth, Devon

We have just returned from a short break at this site. As mentioned in the proffesional review we too got a warm welcome and were shown to our pitch. I liked the fact that the pitches were arranged in groves, not just rows and rows like you see at some bigger parks. All the pitches seemed spacious and level, many had gravel, and some had thier own water/waste as well as electric. The park was beautifully presented with flower borders etc, even the amenitiy block was pleasantly disguised with plants! This is a quiet, peaceful park with a nice feel to it. The facilities really were spotless and helpfully there is a unisex area with loo's and showers meaning that even if the main facilities are closed for cleaning there are still showers etc available. There was also a good information board advertising everything from camping/caravan supplies to places to eat to local craft fairs, great if your new to the area. Nice childrens play area. The site is well positioned for Sidmouth,Seaton,Beer and the beach at Exmouth. If I had to give any negatives at all it would only be that our pitch was a fair walk from the amenities,(ours was a last minute booking). That said though, you are told where your pitch will be located when you book, and given that there is a park map on thier website you are able to see where you'll be which is helpful.I guess if you booked early you could have a choice of pitches. The park security was good,I would happily stay here on my own with the children and feel completely safe. I wouldn't hesitate to recomend this site to families or indeed couples.
