Fen Farm Caravan Site in Essex is a peaceful retreat for the whole family.
Located on Mersea Island in Essex, on the North Sea coast and not far from the ancient town of Colchester and famous seaside resorts like Clacton-on-Sea, if you want to get away from it all, this campsite is perfect for doing just that.
It’s a family owned campsite. Since 1918 it has been in the hands of the Lord family, the first tents pitched on site in 1923. Today, Fen Farm Caravan Site boasts 90 fully serviced static caravans, plus there is loads of space for motorhomes, tents and touring caravans of all sizes.
This really is a place to get away from it all. There is no club on site, no swimming pool either. This is one of the best campsites for sheer tranquillity. Let the children discover the campsite’s play areas which have climbing frames, see saws and swings. They can also get out there and explore ‘crabbing’ in the creeks, or have fun on the beach. In addition, the site has two fields, perfect for ball games, frisbee, kite flying and much more.
This is also a dog friendly campsite, with dog walks and dog waste bins around the caravan park. There is also a dog friendly beach nearby, as well as plenty of places for those after a walking holiday, without or without their four-legged friend.
You will be pleased to learn that this campsite also has award winning loos. This environmentally friendly site has solar powered water heating (with gas back up). There’s a wheelchair accessible shower and toilet, and also a family shower room and toilet. Coin operated washing machines are located in the on site laundry room, as well as tumble dryers and an iron. Fen Farm Caravan Site’s guests can also have use of a freezer and washing up sinks.
In recognition of the work done by the Lord family to protect and sustain the local environment, the site has been given a David Bellamy Gold Conservation Award.
If you really want to get back to nature on your camping holiday in Essex, the Blackwater Estuary National Nature Reserve is not far to the west of Fen Farm Caravan Site and the Essex Wildlife Trust’s Abberton Reservoir is nearby too. Another Essex Wildlife Trust site at Fingringhoe Wick, overlooking the Colne Estuary, is also nearby with a good visitor centre to engage visitors of all ages.
Historic Colchester with its Roman roots, famous castle, great shopping and other handy amenities such as swimming pools, great restaurants and a zoo is only about a 30-minute drive away. But, of course, if you are leaving Mersea Island during your stay at Fen Farm Caravan Site, be certain to check the tide times to make sure you can cross The Strood upon your return!
This is one of the quietest campsites in Essex, a wonderful place to reconnect with your family.
