We are only 5 minutes walk into Cheddar Village for banks, supermarkets, shops, a café and a pub. 15 minutes walk brings you to the World Famous Cheddar Gorge where you will find entry to the Caves, more shops and a large variety of places to eat and drink. We have 7 pubs in the Village all within 15 minutes from the site.
There are many fantastic walks on the Mendip Hills, suitable for all abilities and with beautiful views. The most popular is a circular walk around the Gorge. The Somerset Levels, as suggests, are more flat walks most running alongside rivers. You can walk around Cheddar Reservoir stopping off at Axbridge for refreshments and see the picturesque medieval square and visit King John’s Hunting Lodge that houses the town museum.
If you prefer to use your bike we have the Strawberry Line Cycleway from Cheddar to Yatton (9 miles each way) which is part of Route 26 of the National Cycle Network. At Sandford you can stop for lunch at the Thatchers Cider Pub. This is also a footpath.
There is an hourly bus service, from the Village, to the city of Wells or Weston-Super-Mare. Wells is the smallest City in England where you can visit the Cathedral, the Bishops Palace, twice weekly street market or see film locations used for ‘Hot Fuzz’. Weston-Super-Mare is a typical seaside town and has many events throughout the year.
On Sunday morning, just up the road, is one of the largest car boot sales in the west.
If you use us as a base, within an hours drive are Bristol, Bath, Wookey Hole Glastonbury Tor, National Trust Properties at Tyntesfield, Tintinhull and Montacute. Steam Railways at Cranmore (East Somerset) and Bishops Lydeard to Minehead (West Somerset), Clarks Village factory outlet stores, stock car and banger racing, the Bath and West Showground, RNAS Yeovilton and Wilkins Cider Farm.
Activities locally include caving, dry slope skiing, swimming at the sports centre, Go Karting, fishing (sea, fresh water and fly), horse riding and clay pigeon shooting.
If you just want to relax, set up a chair, light the bbq and pour yourself a drink, or sample some of the locally made cider and cheese and watch our free range chickens running around.

Witheridge Farm CL, Cheddar

We received a warm welcome from Mick (and Jen when we met her later in the day) who gave us detailed information about the local area including routes into Cheddar and to the Gorge plus local pubs and shops. Cobbs the butcher/delicatessen is well worth a visit for delicious pies, cheese (needless to say) and scones. The site is clean and tidy. The road is noisy during the day but to be honest did not affect us all that much, it goes a lot quieter at night so did not disturb our sleep. Just a note, when crossing over to walk into Cheddar it is difficult to see traffic coming from the left due to a bend in the road, view is improved on the return journey. However Mick kindly advised us not to go to the end of the drive to cross over but to walk past the back of the house and out of their gate. This was definitely the safer option. This site is handy for all amenities and for sightseeing, we had a really enjoyable stay, thank you Mick and Jen.
