The Poachers Pocket in Devon is a charming Certificated Location (CL), exclusively open to members of The Caravan Club. The site is open all throughout the year, and is adjacent to a pub of the same name.
There are five pitches at the Poachers Pocket site, all of them hardstanding and each with an electric hook-up. Guests with touring caravans and motorhomes are welcome. Toilets and showers are provided at this CL, plus there is disabled access.
The pub and campsite are adjacent to the A38, which in turn is not too far from the M5, meaning this CL is easy to find and very accessible, so it is a handy place to stay when you visit Devon.
Of course, with a pub on site, you can enjoy time in the cosy bar area, or head to the restaurant which serves an a la carte menu and has an impressive wine list – it's good to know that when staying here, you won't have far to stagger to your accommodation!
If you need to go somewhere with shops, supermarkets, petrol stations and so on, then Taunton, in neighbouring Somerset, is only about a 20-minute drive away. The Museum of Somerset is also here, as is the home of Somerset County Cricket Club.
Alternatively, you could visit Exeter, which is a half hour drive south down the M5 from Poachers Pocket. Exeter Cathedral is a stunning building to tour and well worth some of your time. Also, Bridgwater is a half hour drive north up the M5 from this CL, while both Yeovil and Glastonbury are within an hour's drive.
There are lots of things to do in Devon. Hestercombe Gardens is a half hour drive from Poachers Pocket, while the National Trust owned Knightshayes Court is just a 15-minute drive away, plus in 20 minutes you could be at Bickleigh.
If you spend your motorhome and caravan holidays in Devon, you're likely to want to discover the area's natural beauty. Head to the wild and wonderful Exmoor National Park which covers 267 square miles, where you can enjoy sailing, walking, horse riding, cycling, mountain biking, climbing, canoeing and fishing. Or how about some stargazing? After all, Exmoor National Park has been designated the first International Dark Sky Reserve in Europe. Exmoor Zoo is around an hour's drive from this CL.
You might also like to visit Dartmoor National Park, another magnificent natural environment to explore. Dartmoor Zoological Park and the Dartmoor Prison Museum are both just over an hour by car from Poachers Pocket too, and make interesting days out for the whole family.
Or would you like to head to the coast? The Dawlish Warren National Nature Reserve is about a 40-minute drive from this site, while Lyme Regis is a 50-minute drive away, a pretty place to enjoy wandering round or to try fossil hunting – head to the Charmouth Heritage Coast Centre to learn more about the area. Drive 50 minutes north and you'll be at the Bridgwater Bay National Nature Reserve.
