Tamar Lakes Campsite is a popular holiday location found in the heart of the Cornwall countryside, close to the coastal town of Bude. The site welcomes guests with tents, motorhomes and touring caravans, as well as having a camping pod available for hire.
A small number of hardstanding pitches with electric hook-ups are available, while all other pitches are grass with no hook-ups, perfect for anyone looking for a back to basics camping or touring experience. Communal showers, a washing up area, chemical waste disposal points and recycling areas are available at the park, too. This is a family friendly park and all members of the family, including pets, are welcome. However, if you bring a dog, please clean up after it and ensure it is kept under control.
Tamar Lakes Campsite is popular with water sports lovers that stay at the park to experience the full range of activities that are available, both on the larger Upper Lake and the smaller Lower Lake, which are connected by the River Tamar. Activities offered include rowing, kayaking, windsurfing and sailing. All equipment is available for hire from the campsite, although guests are more than welcome to take along their own kit if they wish.
The Upper Lake in particular has some excellent beach areas, which are great for families with young children looking to relax, play games and paddle. Pedaloes can be hired for little ones that don’t mind taking to the water, while there is also a great children’s play area at the park. Coarse fishing is available on both lakes and on the river, while guests also have the option of heading out to one of the other nearby waterways.
Excellent walking and cycling trails are found around the lake and heading into the countryside. The park has upgraded many of the trails so they are also accessible for wheelchair users and buggies.
A café at the park serves refreshments throughout the day, while there is also a visitor centre for guests looking for some inspiration about what to do across Tamar Lakes Campsite, in the surrounding countryside, or elsewhere in Cornwall and Devon.
There are lots of things to do in Bude, a popular tourist town that is just a 20-minute drive from this campsite, and the surrounding area.
Pencarrow House and Gardens makes for an interesting day out and is within an hour of this campsite, while the Eden Project, despite being all the way down on the south coast of Cornwall, is only an hour and a quarter by car from this campsite.
Walkers will love the South West Coast Path which is a great way to discover the area, while the region's beaches – many of them dog friendly – are one of the top reasons many people visit Cornwall for their camping, motorhome and caravan holidays.
From Tamar Lakes Campsite you can also visit Devon – get in your car and you'll be in Barnstaple in about 45 minutes, while Croyde is just over an hour away and Dartmoor National Park is waiting to be explored. Head into the Exmoor National Park or enjoy the breathtaking views across the Somerset coast from the top of Porlock Hill, which is nearly a two-hour drive from this campsite, but definitely worth it.
